This character is going to be very hard to redeem. She is basically full Nazi youth, and not even begrudgingly. It's hard to feel bad for her and I am not sure even 400 pages is enough time to give her a redemption arc.

This was a little hard to get into but I think switching from the audio to the paper version helped (the narrator is not working for me). I like the world building and the storytelling structure so far.

This took such a weird direction. Why did the author skip over the most interesting part of the premise where she would reacclimate to post war London in favor of all this? What in The-Summer-I-Turned-Pretty?!

I like the story so far, the way the relationships have developed. So many POVS mad it a little hard to get into and I hate the format, especially the italics and the way one there is not separation when another person starts talking. But overall pretty enjoyable.

While this is still on the horror side of things, it's not as much horror as I thought it would be. The time travel aspect has more fantasy vibes.

The creepy vibes are excellent and I like that there are 3 layers of mystery. Sen and the Samurai stuff are a little over the top but I can reserve judgement on that.

I usually try to give a book at leas 50 pages but this feels real cheesy, like Pirates of the Caribbean, but in space.

This is painfully slow. The SA seemed unnecessary but perhaps it will impact the plot in some way.

I think my main problem with this book is that it is, by necessity, a lot of speculation and I just don't feel super grounded in the facts.

Jimenez has made this trope more palatable than I expected but I can't believe things are still dragging on with the boyfriend. Get that guy some help! The couple has zero chemistry though, it might be because the MMC acts like the FMC constantly needs to be coddled instead of treating her like an equal. It feels icky because he's basically been lying to her by enabling his friend.

So far I like this, I have a soft spot for retail pharmacists. I really appreciated the trigger warnings at the beginning of the book, Jimenez always deals with some heavy shit in her love stories but financial insecurity is one I can't always handle reading and was happy to have the heads up.

This is a little tough because of how many people share names, which isn't really something the author can help. I appreciate her calling out modern examples of similar political moments so I can better understand the impact of these actions.

I'm sorry, she didn't leave after being lied to for 3 years?! I'm enjoying the mystery but it seems like the main characters are making willfully stupid decisions. I also didn't realize this was going to be a best-friends-with-romantic-feelings story because that is just not my jam.

The competition for the throne feels so half-hearted, like contenders just sometimes sit out trials and don't seem overly concerned about it. The only thing that really seems to matter are the fights and those don't really make sense as a metric for picking your next leader. This book is so painfully dumb! The Valit family continues to be the only interesting part of the story, and Benna by association.

Oh no, this plot is bad. That 'twist' makes no sense if you think about it for even a minute and anything that doesn't have to do with the Valit family is incredibly boring. Am I reading a totally different book than the one people have been raving about?

The interesting thing about this is that it is a page turner but has chapters that are on the longer side, that's not something you see very often in thrillers. I was a bit spoiled on the sister part because of the casting news for the adaptation but that really didn't take away from the enjoyment of the book.

Taking 150 pages to get to the actual plot is a problem and I am honestly not sure I care who the killer is. The problem is that I don't feel invested in anyone, even the main character and the contrivances around her feel silly. At most I am still curious about the Valit family. I feel like Yanara is probably not dead if we are only told a body was found. And the sister has been 'sick'? It feels like machinations.

This is off to an extremely dark start. If Huck actually turns out to be Hightop, I will be annoyed, but hopefully it's not that clumsy. I will also be shocked if the mention of the leather jacket didn't matter.

There are a lot of characters to keep track of but so far they have been introduced in a way that works. The court intrigue is also pretty great and though the first couple chapters through me off initially, they do work really well as an event that set so much of this in motion.

I understand that there needed to be groundwork to get here, but I wish the whole book had been this. Two people from different planets on a journey of survival, growing to love each other, is so much more interesting than people endlessly talking politics.

Time travel elements are hard to pull off and I am not sure this one handles it particularly well. The changes don't feel like they make sense and that makes the story feel a little all over the place. I wish it was more straightforward like changes felt directly related to the changes Neive was making. I was hoping this would be more of a Sliding Doors vibe.
