I was so excited to see this on the library shelf in the "new book" section---have been waiting patiently to read it for about a year. So far, it was worth the wait. Ann Patchett has a style of her own that grinds a character deeply into being -- setting the stage in the first 20 pages as no one else can.

I've been so curious about equine assisted therapy, knowing the healing that being around horses provides me--but wondering if this is for real. This book is supposed to be textbook of sorts, case studies and stories of healing. I hope it's authentic.

Riding Home: The Power of Horses to Heal

Stumbled on this horsey-novel while combing the fiction shelves. So far, entertaining, well written, with a fast moving plot. Only glitch so far, the horse farm owner smokes a pipe in the indoor arena while giving a lesson. Who does that? Not realistic, even for a book written in 2004. No one smokes anywhere near a barn, I hope!
