This book is.... terrible. Not for the reasons all the triggered kids are claiming, especially since the book STARTS with a trigger warning so if they still read it and got offended, that's on them. I can tell the author is a Shirley Jackson fan, but that does not make them a good writer...

The amount of lip licking and teeth clicking going on in this book is making me more uncomfortable than the random dead bodies and old people vampire action....

One hour in and they decide it's a good idea to break out the ouija board? Well this bodes well...

Slow moving, not as much dry wit as I've come to expect from Kingfisher. I don't really like the MC and I was hoping for more out of the reindeer so now I'm depressed.

I give up. I gave it a chance, but they're all so dumb. This feels like a 13 year old wrote it, the love scenes are awkward and you can see the kid giggling as they type it thinking it's hot when it's just... cringey.... Don't get me started on the rest of it. Poorly written, horrible characters, and apparently I'm in the minority which is concerning

This chick is the most unlikeable, shallow, smug P.O.S.... i keep hoping she'll grow up a little while she's stuck in the past, but she's so much smarter/prettier/whatever than everyone else I'm sure that won't happen.

Well I googled it to see if I was right and if I cared enough to continue. Spoiler alert... I called it after the first POV change.... since I'm busy, and this is fairly short (and I'm waiting for other books to become available) I'll let the audiobook continue as white noise in the back of my brain, but maybe I've read too many "psychological thrillers" this month

This guy is way to much. He basically forces her into a relationship, makes household decisions on a house he DOESNT LIVE IN three weeks after telling her theyre dating. Wtf... then when she cancels their date because he decided to tear down her barn, he ignores her call and calls the babysitter telling her it's not cancelled?

Its gotten to the point that I can tell what decade I'm in based on her writing style. Yes all nora roberts books are the exact same formula just different names and occupations, but after slogging through several from the 80s, I'm happy to be back in the 90s. Early yet, I prefer her late 90s to early 2000s. But her supernatural stuff always takes the cake regardless of decade

Not really sure why the male narrator thinks that men from Colorado have a New Englandish accent, but it's driving me bonkers.

This is even worse than the first book. The only saving factor is the adorableness of a rabid raccoon and the ugly duckling goofiness of fluffy jr. If we could have a book about just them, I'd probably read it. But she is the most unlikeable person ever who somehow has ever single man panting after her

I get it... men are the worst. Can we move on please?

Pretty sure I just keeping coming back to these for his relationship with Dog, his technological failings and old man grumblings mixed with shenanigans that are way out of his age range. #imtooldforthisshit

So telling your kid that you're a cheating whore is supposed to save her from being possessed by a demon? Gotcha.... also, horror stories from the Viewpoint of a child are much creepier than normal

Went to download the rest of the series because im enjoying this more than i thought I would. Both my libraries have the 1st and 5th book.... nothing in between.... WTF @tennesseeR.E.A.D.S

I made the mistake of looking at a spoiler because I always need to know "does the 'dog' die" and was so depressed by the first book. I'll probably finish this one but may wind up lemming it and returning the final book. There has to be some hope in 26 hours each book. Instead of a dangling carrot that just keeps getting yanked away at every turn. My anxiety can't handle it haha

For a person who makes her living observing people and situations, she sure is pretty naive.

This book should have ended 10 hours ago, and the are still 10 to go. This may have actually been enjoyable if it was split up into a trilogy, but at this point im only finishing it because I've already lost 20 hours of my life, so what's another 10

The female lead is extremely unlikeable

I was all set to hate Byron with his need to be the hero and his southern gentlemanly ways. But..... i live in the south. And I'm kind of in love with him now.
