I rolled my challenge goal back to a more manageable level, because reading has been unpredictable, and because I just do not care to be challenged and do not care to gamify myself. Next year I will probably set my goal as one (because I do find it convenient to have a list of just the books I read in a year without trying to root thru Read shelf.

Laziness Does Not Exist
Libby suggested with all the autism books. It suits, although with a broader focus than I assumed. Seeing this research all together has a big impact. Bonus props for the well-considered presentation.
Price has me reconsidering my participation in the GRs annual challenge, because games like that can motivate people, but detract from the inherent satisfaction. I shall ruminate.

Iron Widow (Iron Widow #1)
Shout out to Penguin who alone formats their Kindle files to open to the cover by default and puts in a Contents page. Now If Amazon would make the menues adjustable so I could find the book I will read in a Large Print and lose the thumbnails inthe library (a mere 4 titles/page in tiny print, so more scrolling, bad for Kindlers with hand/arm pain, in case you're wondering) that would be good.

How the Penguins Saved Veronica (Veronica McCreedy, #1)
This has languished for 3 years on my shelves. Mike Finn's update prevented eternal languish. Sadly the Boomer & Gen X beloved Kindle doesn't allow much flexibility in library views (the ability to make any book Large Print is defeated by an inability to enbiggen the menus, as 1 example) so my TBRs are just as much a mess in print and in ebooks. The struggle is absurd, but real. #GoodReaderProblems

I'm having one of those bouts of being swayed by almost (the dystopias aren't calling me) every positive review I see. After days or weeks of not picking up what my friends are putting down. Weird when that hits out of nowhere. Does this happen to other people?

How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer to Every Moral Question
I checked out the book, and have since decided kindle is the way to go in this context: I'm coming across a number of quotes that I want to add to the record, as it is. Lots of quotes.

4/4 I shall be a more careful bomb thrower in the future. Please learn from my example and whenever possible purchase a new copy of books by living authors you value. Sadly, we won't get more novels out of Jane Austen no matter how many copies of Northanger Abbey you buy. Mea culpa

3/4 He mentioned that a sequel for it was so long coming in part because sales for this one weren't as big or as early as for others. I blame myself. It is my favorite of his novels so far, but my original read was a library copy. Hoist with my own petard, there.

2/4 Since GR won't let me have a book marked Read and also Currently Reading, I am recording here that I am enjoying my reread of Jasper Fforde's Shades of Grey very much. I had forgotten how much fun his website is.

1/4 I am on a spree starting a number of books more or less at once because ADHD and there's been a shortage of Adderall creating shortages of other meds downstream and really, I need a higher dose anyway as you can no doubt tell from this frantically long sentence.

Yay, me finally axing some books lingering on my virtual Currently Reading where they at least don't collect dust. But it is way past time to let them go. Spring cleaning without the allergic attacks, for the win

CRIMES & PUNISHMENTS: A novella and two short stories
A Clever Evil was beautifully crafted, and it creeper me out so bad I had to take a break and read something completely different before I could even consider coming back for the third story. Yeah, half of Austen Society seemed like enough until writing this note, which has my heart rate increasing, and the creepiest resuming.

Dark Remedy: The Impact Of Thalidomide And Its Revival As A Vital Medicine
I'm at the part where doctors are figuring out what is causing the epidemic of certain birth defects. I was feeling good until I thought of Oxycodone and what the Sacklers. I'm surprised they haven't been charged with a drug trafficking crime, just to seize the assets. The other nice thing for them is that unlike so many who went to prison for possession, they haven't lost their right to vote.

It just seems like there would be more movies and books in that vein. Sure there's those, and no doubt that same audience has been seeing the Marvel movies, and the Star Wars stuff. Still, that's hardly anything compared to the number of westerns produced in any one decade. More books and movies like this, please.
Anyway part of me is sad Meg Cabot a screenwriter. And that I didn't become a fight director.

Why aren't there more of these? I mean, paranormal romance often contains a strong action-movie feel, and there's the popularity of Supernatural with heavy buddy-cop energy, and eventually they got around to creating female characters who didn't just die, so there is clearly an audience for good explosions for those who care action with romantic attraction (True Lies, Lethal Weapon 3, The Mummy)1 of 2.

I had to stop and double-check the author. This reads more like one of the Crusie/Mayer collaborations I am so fond of. I am liking the romance adventure vibe

Despite having way too many library books awaiting their turn, I went to the library to print out some pages and came home with 6 more books and a second-hand DVD. The only good thing I can say on my behalf is that I'm not frittering away my money on books I won't read. Which is good, since groceries are twice what they were. Quel sigh.

PSA Someone posted a new Idea in Help to set a priority for their Want to Read shelf. It isn't possible to comment on Ideas, nor to DM the poster, so here's a work around. You can change the number labeled # associated with a book's place on a specific shelf, as long as there are <5k books on that shelf.
