Going to try and sneaky read through this during class. She does such a fantastic job of telling us who katniss is in this first chapter. (something she failed at in haymitch's book....)

Hey, haymitch, remember all those people you love in district 12? How have you not once considered the danger you’re putting them in? You know full well how beetee was punished with ampert’s death…

So the very first berm hatch that haymitch manages to find and camp by just so miraculously happens to lead down directly next to the water tank… it’s too convenient for me.

I get the appeal of focusing on the people who are suffering the most in Panem, aka district 12, but i really would love a book that shows us more of what the other district's daily living is like. we really are only given the most broad descriptions of what the other descriptions are like.

A book w an interesting premise?!? Unheard of

I just read a substack essay someone wrote where they talk about how the mark of good writing is the ability to make agony feel sweet to the reader. of course i immediately thought of this book and how FRUSTRATING the angst is here... for the love of god toss the reader some information even if you aren't ready for the characters to know anything yet.

the endless philosophizing is exhausting, can’t you guys just relax??

majorly confused about this jump to new york on nora’s birthday when none of these people are in new york during the year most of the book is set. why is this chapter here??
