Holy crap, that escalated quickly!

Are you depressive or euphoric? The house, in its wisdom, seems to have taken advantage of your moments of euphoria to prepare itself to shelter you in your moments of depression.

To open the gate for me there was the gravedigger I had already merry at The Star of Sweden.

"I am looking for Mr. Kauderer," I said to him.

He answered, "Mr. Kauderer is not here. But since the cemetery is home of those who are not here, come in."

CON'T Literally when four people entered the room, they went through describing them one after another in this manner. And, then if protagonist knows this information, they will infodump about the character's life history. Good gracious!

This is my first Ilona Andrews book, and I want to make it clear that I am very much enjoying the story so far. BUT. These authors really need to learn a thing or two about introducing characters. Every time a new one enters the story, they list out for readers their build (sometimes their specific height and weight), skin color, hair color, hair style, and the color and material of each clothing item. CON'T

Listening to the audiobook on Spotify until I get my hands on a print copy. For the record, not in love with the narration. It’s not terrible, but could be better for sure.

"I carry around hard candy in my purse because I am your grandpa. If your grandpa had a purse."

"Compared to everyone in the cemetery down the block I am doing great and have accomplished way more than they have today."

"Hippos look like enormous doofy water babies who like long soaks, but really they're murder potatoes who kill over five hundred people a year; they're literally deadlier than lions. And hippos are vegetarians so they're not even doing it to eat you. They just want to kill you for fun. (I assume.)

...hippos are baddies who have nothing to prove.

And--let me remind us both--neither do we.

"What do I think? Let's see. In less than a minute on the job, you've fallen foul off the bishop, got involved with some fancy young twit and attracted the attention of a man with the biggest gun I've ever seen...Even for you, this is remarkable! That's what I think."

Oh, bestill my heart! This is not even my number one choice of the bunch, but dang if this nonspicy romance doesn't have me all twitterpated!
