“Now (now when I’m writing) I see a single image from my twenty years at the Barracas Sporting Club, I dive into the pool and at the bottom I come face-to-face with another swimmer, we touch bottom simultaneously and see each other imperfectly through the sour green water.”
The author steps out of the story into his own memory to better describe an event in the story. Extremely avant garde and works so well

Random info on the west and literature and art from there. Focused on the time when Prussia was a big deal which was the same time that America was getting started and France was getting towards the French Revolution. Just speaking to how freedom is a growing notion around the world at that time and what is influencing that. Cool to see the fight btw church and state and how monarchs/artists influenced either sides.

Someone asked a fool how he can stay out in the cold with barely any clothes?

"Why," replied the fool, "use my receipt to put on all your clothes you have at once, and you'll feel no more cold than I.”

Not really a fan of this. Just finishing it because I’m too deep. I’m reading the version with regular people talk side by side with Shakespeare talk, and it’s still exhausting how verbose some of the scenes are. I’m hoping the ending makes this experience worth it but we’ll see, I have serious doubts.

This is gonna take a long time. What I like is how it’s almost like a diary. He’s also constantly spitting facts. I can appreciate some of the quotes too. “Let him hide beneath iron or brass in his fear, death will pull his head out of his armour.” That’s bad ass as hell to write. And so true. N the context only makes it hit harder. I will finish it but it might be a whole year thing

It’s good. Not great. I can understand Hamlet’s motives really well, and I feel like he’s a very believable character. I am curious how this will end up, I don’t remember what I learned in highschool. Ophelia is such a lovely name. I don’t like how slow I have to read it but it’s fine. Plays are an underrated thing to read for real

I still really like it but pacing isn’t as impressive as it was before. I didn’t realize being a cowboy was so bad ass, especially when there are so much dangers all around and you pretty much live in the wilderness. This takes place around 1850 I think. It is also making me want to ride a horse. There are some things that really move you but so far what I like the most is the bad assness of cowboys.

He’s mainly just stating his opinion about things. He makes good points sometimes, but other times your lost because of the references. You’re not gonna stop after every sentence to look up some old Greek battle bc you want to understand what he’s saying. Solid so far tho

The pacing in this book is really good. I’m very impressed with how every sentence advances the story. Characters are all really good too even tho there’s a lot.

Okay so I got like half way and then restarted because I was so confused, and the prose is pleasant enough to reread. But it’s interesting because I thought I was missing a lot and I kinda was but wasn’t. But I also think it interesting how much more I feel like on the first read I was being manipulated by the author and like reading it how she intended. Now I feel like I’m a little smarter than was intended.

I’m reading the Shakespeare made easy version of this, that I found at a thrift store. I like being able to tell what this guy is talking about. I understand that ppl like the English language for its bombastic turns of phrase when emotions are present, but Shakespeare goes over board with this for me. I understand the value, but this way of speaking is is overly ornamental for lack of better term, in my opinion

This book is frustrating. I couldn’t tell you anything about the reality of the book or the main character, but as you read it’s easy to see how certain things matter and other things don’t, in regards to what the main character or narrator thinks or experiences. It’s like how some thoughts are meaningless and others are extremely important. Still not sure if it’s a good book tho, cuz wtf is happening, irdk

I can see why this guy was such an issue during his time. Everything he says is hard to argue with, and he has such a great balance of older hood gentleman trying to teach these youngins about life, and professor in college that wants everything he does to have deep meaning. When it comes to persuading people into your beliefs, I haven’t heard much better than this. I could say so many good things about the prose

The way he speaks is very inspiring. It’s a very good balance between smart and normal person. But jeez his opinions are sharp even tho they sneak up on you because he writes so chill. Really easy one to gobble up.

I was too hard on the book in my last update. It’s honestly has a lot of redeeming qualities; probably will rate it like a 2 or 3. It’s just the bad parts are so bad. I also think this is a girly book and that’s another reason what I don’t like I really don’t like. Excuse the misogyny yall.

I also think I just don’t like the author as a person which may say more about me than the author.

I HATE THIS. The author is like a weird tortured soul or something because there has been so many times I just said, “wow that’s really weird and gross”. It’s funny cuz it has some redeeming qualities but I’ll prob rate it one star. Just shocking opinions and descriptions of decisions n so many times where affection for someone else in such bad words.
