One of my highlights so far (p 242)
“There can be no doubt of the existence of public fear, public anger, and public hate, but there is no public love or public forgiveness. There can only be the public unwillingness to forgive that is implied by public fear, anger, and hate.”

At times this book is just too painfully on the nose, yet I can’t stop reading Damon’s accounts and young understanding of tobacco in the south, the early opioid crisis, and foster care in the U.S.
I’m borrowing from the library, but I can tell this is one I’m going to want to own and pick up again.
