Chapter 16 covers the design of the LA public library and tells about architect Bertram Goodhue and his team sculptor Lee Lawrie, artist Hildreth Meiere, and philosopher iconographer Hartley Burr Alexander. Finally, an interesting chapter.

The author describes the futile and ludicrous scene of people evacuating their towns. The mass of people pass two to ten miles a day while the overtaking tanks can cover fifty miles in a day, aeroplanes at four hundred miles per hour.

The book is divided into three places: Italy (eat), India (pray), and Indonesia (love) each with 36 chapters. I just finished the Italy section. The author shares her experiences living in each place and in Italy she is mostly in Rome. I love the tidbits about statues and fountains and churches and language that she weaves into the narrative. This is a nice journey.

“Want to come to a party on Saturday?”... “Where is it?” He had no interest in going, but couldn’t see how to get out of talking with this guy. “Near campus. On Wertland.” Reid nodded. Everyone knew the party street. LOL

So far I like this pick from the December Kindle first reads. The setting is Charlottesville and the Blue Ridge. :)

I am listening to the audio version and so I am missing key pieces of detail, but I love how the content intersects with others that I have read this year. The book begins with an overview of Serbia and Croatia that is interesting.

Entertaining to listen to

Halfway through I like this book for the engaging intrigue and interesting characters.

The personal stories are interesting, but the last few chapters get boring.

I like how this book highlights historical events and puts a personal spin on the impact. Also, I need to visit this city. :)

Slow going, but I am still working through this one.

I need and entertaining novel, preferably a little old so it will be available in the library. I have just abandoned two dreadful books for being boring. Any recommendations?

Favorite read of the year

Chapter 7 oh geez

After chapter two I loved the character, by chapter three I was beginning to get bored, by the end of chapter four - aw geez, now I have to keep reading.

One chapter in and I am cracking up.
