really enjoying how fantastical this is, didnt expect it

every time i pick this up again and remember the story i get a pit in my stomach

these paragraph long sentences are not helpful for someone who hasnt read properly in french for like 5 years

finding this a bit of a drag, the writing is fine and there are some interesting ideas but nothing is like, out of the box enough to get me actually invested

this is one of the most male written books ive ever read, the woman is textbook manic pixie dream girl and the narrator is like standard bulgarian man who thinks hes cool and mysterious because hes cold to people, and super deep and complex bc he has a creative hobby

oh dear this is a manic pixie dream girl story

the slang for head being gulliver i see what you did there brother... glava → gulliver its genuinely russian all the way down

it feels silly to have this whole 'made up slang' thats a major feature of your book rely on the reader not knowing a slavic language for it to sound made up

the writings so good the descriptions are those types of ones where everything feels like familiar experiences, but seen in a new imaginative way that makes you go omg youre right it is like that
the narration is so. an authentic female experience, i think im rlly drawn to books and media abt jaded women not wanting to partake in the bs around them and going through the motions. stupid example but reminds me of daria

something comforting about a long ass historical family saga

starting to see the intention of this book now, been conditioned to expect some grand finale from the last book in a series so this is refreshing. just watching the glory fade as the characters get old and them having to deal with that

also le guin going hard on the feminism now lol i think i read somewhere that she regretted how patriarchal the first book was

man i love this series. shes so good at layering lore throughout the books so that you feel like youve lived with all these characters and can see all the connections between them
