So Martha didn’t know Zhen was on the island. And Zhen knew the world hadn’t ended bcs Albert made her go there to destroy the communications. That part makes more sense now at least. And I appreciate the 100 years into the future look. I don’t quite understand the last page tho. Is it setting up for a sequel or just saying that peace never lasts? And what is the message from Marius about?

I just feel like this is a bit too perfect. Like 3 years and they’ve sold all the worlds environmental problems and hundreds of thousands of people have agreed to relinquish their cars for access to a self driving car network and they’re regrowing the amazon rainforest and stopped tigers from going extinct. 3!! YEARS!! And you’re trying to say all these governors other companies just agreed? I don’t think so

I was starting till suspect something like this. Martha, Albert, Selah and Badger got Ellen, Lenk and Zimri to evacuate, crashed their plane, left them on the island, brought Zhen to the island. Tricked them all into thinking the world had ended and just left them there for 3 years. Then they could take over the companies and fix things. Genius. But why leave Zhen there too??? I don’t get that at all

Well That’s not how I was expecting that to go. A deadly virus and the world has collapsed in a matter of days. It doesn’t feel quite right to say the world has ended bcs I think that would mean it’s completely dead and there essentially no life left, which isn’t the case. But humanity seems to be ending. And those four are stuck on an island. Is Zhen never meeting Martha again?

Zhen at a campfire with Ellen, Zimri and Lenk is not what I was expecting. Where’s Martha?

This is Scary poetic in a way. It feels like this book is really echoing our reality.
I really want to know how it ends.

It’s really cool to see the start of it all With Martha and Albert and Selah. Is the plan to wrench back control from Lenk, Zimri & Ellen? Sure hope so. Also very disappointing to hear that Zimri is a serial cheater after reading the prologue. Love Selah tho

This is not right. After all this. After all that has happened it can’t end like this. I don’t want to accept that. Lucy has to go after Sam, after how they parted. She bought Sam’s life and freedom with that bargain, Sam has to know that. And the book just ends, we have no idea what Lucy intends to do or any way of knowing how her life turns out. I am deeply unhappy with this ending

After all they’re been through I just want these two to have peace. I really hope they find it across the ocean, but I’m fearing that the language barrier and the cultural differences might be impossible for them to bridge

First of all Charles is disgusting, anna’s hardly any better. I don’t understundom how you can be that self absorbed, its like she Actually thinks of Lucy as some kind of pet.
I will say that I much prefer this version of Sam. The years away from their father has done him good, and I’m very happy he punched Charles.
And he’s planning on going back to China, and seems to actually want Lucy to come along

Well this was a Nice surprise. A five year time jump. Lucy got work in Sweetwater, Sam left to adventure. Lucy befriended a rich girl named Anna. Sam, now 16, is back. Lucy is 17.
Before the time jump Lucy was craving the stability of the town, now I think she craves the freedom of the wild again. Sam wouldn’t say no if she asked to travel with him right?
And they still need to find their mom

Their mother is still alive?? I wasn’t expecting that. She must’ve gone to teacher leigh and then further away. They would’ve found her if she was still in the same town as them.
Their father saying that they turned out alright actually makes me so angry. 1. They’re not. At all. 2. If they were it would be despite him not thanks to. He literally abused and terrorized them, especially Lucy, and for what??

I wasn’t keen on it but this chapter is very necessary I think. I’m interpreting it as Lucy’s Ba speaking to her after his death, telling her his and her mom’s life stories. So he lived all his life in America. Lucy’s Ma came with a ship of 200 (!) other Chinese immigrants when she was older. I never realized her Ba wasn’t born in China. Her Ma must’ve taught him the language

I’d like to think her Ma sent Lucy out Bcs she knew she wouldn’t make it and didn’t want lucy to see that

Will shiseo’s story be like snape’s in manacled? I like him at least, I hope he doesn’t willingly join Morrough and I also hope he doesn’t die

Interesting that Zhen has already met Selah and Martha. And obviously they are aware that some kind of apocalypse is on the way. The “would you save yourself” question annoys me but it does also force me to acknowledge that yeah if I had the the same choices I would save myself just as the tech moguls were doing in the prologue.

Huh so Martha grew up in a survivalist cult and and interview with Martha about Said cult went viral and the cult got angry and now wants to kill Zhen. And Zhen and Martha hooked up at the conference. Got it.

It’s kinda sad to read this Bcs I know how to hell it’s going to go. It’s also a bit jarring to read of Lucy’s dad actually being a good dad who works hard and tells his children stories and dreams of buying land for his family. It’s hard to reconcile with the abusive, pathetic wreck of a person he becomes. And her mother wants them to go back to China. But neither happens. What will go wrong?

So Martha made that bible reference name the day post? Clearly she’s not a fan of the tech moguls, and ett she works for Lenk?
And is there something more to Badger, Martha, Selah and Albert. Are they working together against their super rich families/bosses/ex coworkers?

Well damn, I also felt bad for Ivy for having to torture people and do crowther’s dirtywork. But clearly she’s having the time of her life

But it doesn’t collapse here… maybe they changed the scene a little. Bcs in manacled the tower definitely falls, maybe at a later time?

Oh I has forfotten this scene. Its so small but it really breaks my heart. Obviously its not the tower’s fault, everything that happened. And it’s not Helena’s either. The tower just fell, No big deal, if it hadn’t been for the symbolism she imbued each rock with. Everyone she wanted to protect, But placing Kaine’s rock on it, wanting to protect him too makes everything collapse.

It seems all the characters are adults, which shouldn’t be surprising but I’m just way too used to reading YA. And why is everyone convinced the world is ending? I want more context

Will all of part 2 be a flashback? I didn’t thinks a long flashback was needed since we’d already got a lot of info on their past but I think I was wrong bcs seeing their family before it broke apart is really intriguing

These rich people piss me off, Bcs What do you mean you get told that the world is ending before anyone else? Like your life is worth more just bcs you’re the founder of some company

Well thank fucking god he reined in the creep when he realized Lucy was a literal child. Still don’t like him tho.
Also makes me sad how Sam will literally listen to any man, or anyone who confirms his/her identity as a boy over Lucy. It’s honestly like Sam thinks Lucy is dirt
