Mary is starting Flights of Love: Stories
I read the first story Girl with Lizard and it was painfully sad. I may have to take these one at a time over a period of time. I bought the book from Better World Books so I own it and can take my time to read it.

Mary is starting Serpents in Eden: Countryside Crimes
I gave up after trying three or four stories and not enjoying them.

I liked the story by Arthur Canon Doyle even if it used the lame clue of twins and mistaken identity. The Fad of the Fisherman by Chesterton was not clear to me at all—confusing and not entertaining. I may try a few others.

Mary is on page 146 of 416 of One Step Behind (Kurt Wallander Mystery Book 7)
Maybe I read this book years ago pre-Goodreads days in my life. it seems vaguely familiar. But it is a compelling mystery and I am enjoying it—if that is the right word for such evil and sadness. I do remember Wallendar’s eating and drinking habits and his ill health being a factor. More later when I finish it but I could rate it five stars already.

Mary is starting The Duchess of Bloomsbury Street
I read 84 Charing Cross Road years ago and got it from the library to reread. This time it did not charm me as much. So today I tried Hanff’s memoir of her trip to London to meet the correspondents of 84. And I am finding it a fun, relaxing read—and enjoying London with Hanff.

Mary is starting Zero at the Bone: Fifty Entries Against Despair
I keep thinking this book is too abstract and difficult for me and I should give up. Then I open it up at random and I find a good excerpt that speaks to me. Today is was “Can this sin live?” About Lucille Clifton and poems of loss and a slave ship and a homeless woman with her toe sticking out of her shoe. And I was touched and thought I should look up more Clifton poetry.

Mary is starting Death on Skye (DI Kelso Strang #1)
I abandoned it early on. just don’t want to read about evil men and murder right now. Enough evil in this world without imagining more of it in a novel.
