All the negative reviews for this book are critiquing the realism which like, absolutely fair critique if you go in expecting that and if anything, more proof we should let things that aren't fairy tale retellings market themselves as fairytales. That and the "deaf character who can read minds" one. I STG I've read more magically not blind/deaf MCs than actual blind/deaf ones because of how frequently the tropes randomly crop up in fantasy.

Does anyone remember another YA book that starts with the protagonist getting a ride home from her super chill teacher, bantering about his music taste, then being told not to mention it to anyone? I have so much Deja Vu rn and genuinely thought I read this years ago and forgot about it but it just came out so I must be thinking of something else.
