Very weird choice to save the interesting characterizations for the final chapters. The shattered timeline does not do this book any favors - a resequence could have gotten me invested earlier.

I recall not liking Station 11 very much (loved the show) and maybe this author is just not for me. Simplistic prose and undercooked characters, world-building that relies on leaps of imagination in the reader (there is a domed city here whose main qualities are that it is domed, and thousands of old buildings were demolished to build it... No more detail?). Hoping it finishes strong but not getting my hopes up.

This is fun but if you asked me to identify more than two or three of these characters by their names or characteristics, I'd be at a loss. The world building (with conveniently-geo-located chapter subheads) is more successful and believable.

It's about family.

The thing about Jack Reacher is that he's very large, he likes coffee, has an encyclopedic knowledge of firearms, and loves a lady in uniform.

So, uh, you do eventually plan to have octopi in your octopus book, right?

Oh, so EVERYONE is racist.

This is beautiful and poetic and takes forever to get through. I like movies.

I'm still reading this, I swear!!! I'm an anti-racist!

I was wondering if this was ever gonna get horny.

You guys - Tom is REALLY TRYING to not kill anyone. There's just certain circumstances, you know?

Needs more shark

Wow, this is not very good.

Ok I'm starting to remember why I gave up on this book about halfway through - the narrator is becoming insufferable and the [spoilers] are not interesting enough to power through. I will endeavor to continue this time.

Apparently I've read this before, but have no memory of it. I would cast Jim Carrey.

Cadillac Desert reference!

Started over. This is heavy.

Needs more SPHERE.

This.... is not very good

They called Sputnik "a metal box" 🧐

maybe this dinosaur island was a bad idea

At no point in reading this have I thought "this would make a good musical"

Words words words! The book's narrator is an insane librarian in the midst of a midlife crisis. Someone please hide her thesaurus.

This book is full of gobbledygook like "How can blind unplan produce a string thick with desire to reveal its own fundament?" that is - trust me - deep and profound and moving in context, and no, not quite as insufferable as it seems.

Or maybe the opposite: surface profundity and brilliant language-play hides a vacuous core?

Is that the mystery? Either way, it's taking me a while to get through this. Good luck.
