I spent all day reading this and my soul left my body. Also I cried. Wasn't actually expecting to like this; I loved it. RTC

i read this book for the first time at the start of the year, and i loved it so much that i wanted to immediately reread it...i read the first Vorkosigan Saga book by Bujold the other day, because many people said it was better, but it didn't touch me at all in the way this one did (even though it was good). even though there are other World of 5 Gods books to read, i gave in to the urge to reread this already....

I finished this last week but I think I'll be re-referencing the first 50% of the book a lot, which has VERY good writing advice that I would recommend ANY writer read this book for. as far as the topic of fantasy writing/worldbuilding goes (the other half of the book) it's middling in quality- very good for beginner fantasy writers, but too limited in scope compared to others I've read. it's still easily 4 stars.

had this book since last year...it's responsible for my reading slowing down this week. Ironsworn and its adaptation, Starforged, is a pen-and-paper RPG that can have (but does not require) a GM/DM so it can be played your way at your own pace.

been listening to 2 Actual-Play podcasts of it & that was inspiring. the podcast "Forged Among The Stars" is really well done for a single host, solo-play AP podcast.

does anybody know how to add book updates for books in your currently-reading that don't appear on the "see more" sidebar on goodreadshome?

I always have 30-40 books in this category for a few reasons:
- I have ADHD & I usually struggle to complete books unless I'm reading 3-6+ books concurrently including on-hold ones.
- I keep books I'm always referencing "on writing" and that are RPGs i'm playing in this category

i might be demanding too much from pulp KU smut, but the author went to the full trouble of making an orc language that contains several swear words, only to have one of the orc characters drop about 12 "fucks" (and i don't mean the dirty-talk kind of "fuck", which could be excused because context) and at least one "hell" (which is a word that pokes holes in things too) in the last 2 pages. immersion-breaking. bleh.

i've avoided reading my first sanderson novel for years because, despite actually liking "sandersonian" magic systems, any author who garners this much praise and hype tends to make me automatically suspicious. still, SO MANY people i follow on goodreads, gave this book 4 or 5 stars and endless praise.

unfortunately...started listening to this last night, and i'm really really not feeling it so far. it's a slog

i bought this last night and since i can't sleep and i'm sick anyway, i've been glued to it all morning to the point my eyes are getting so tired i can't focus.

(also despite being able to hear Garak's voice perfectly in my head when reading, am secretly disappointed there is no audio version of this with Andrew J. Robinson narrating. that would be *chefs kiss* and also i need to rest my dang eyes)

i am not enjoying this book half as much as i thought i would based on how much i liked Swordheart...hmm. maybe i'm just not in the right frame of mind for it right now, or maybe there are actually things i can pick out.

reading this because i'm concurrently reading the pamphlet on writing tips and fantasy writing specifcally by the same author, a book i'm probably going to give at least 4 stars to and plan to praise (i'm about 70% done with that one, and it's much longer than this short collection) ... got one more story to read in this one, but getting the unfortunate feeling that this is a "those who can't do, teach" scenario. hmm
