How do you “close the door in your own face”?? Couldn’t she just write that she closed the door??

Urg why is she SO DRAMATIC?? She just opened a book and wrote: “she opened it to its interior plastic chamber” URGGG. For real, I’m struggling through this. How do you become a marriage therapist with a genuine attitude of ‘you should have known’?!

Probably the best quote to sum up how I feel about this book...

I’ve been studying and writing papers on illness narratives for over a year now. Picked this up for leisure without reading the synopsis and turns out this too is an illness/epidemic narrative. It’s probably a good thing that I really enjoy the intersection between literature and medicine a lot. It’s a really good read so far!

Listening to this on audio. I’ve been listening for almost 14.5 hours already and I’m only halfway through 😂 No complaints though. This book just feels so comforting and comfortable.

Your mother’s emotional state and makeup determines what yours will be. In fact, serotonin levels in babies are similar to their mom and remain the same as an individual grows up.

Food For Thought: Medication for depression is increasingly being touted as effective and necessary. But even with the influx of technology, depression rates are still rising exponentially. Interestingly, despite these findings, medication has become the widely accepted norm for mental illness treatment. Other forms of treatments and therapies are considered ‘alternative’.

I didn’t think I was going to read this after seeing dismal early reviews. But after two weeks of sitting in my library’s borrowed shelf, I decided to just give it a try and I’m pretty impressed with how sucked in I am.
