Great read

I’m liking this a lot. Interestingly, the end note points out some (slightly grudging) changes Mr Roberts had to make during editing. I’m thinking this may be a good sign because the last book I read by him was a bit self-indulgent. Early indications are that this one is more to my taste.

Certainly an unusual book, one might even say novel. There are some passages of Modernist experimentation, which frankly I could do without. Overall it’s good though. If a bit lacking in action and excitement. Plenty of interest.

Back on track. The action's kicking off when suddenly the setting, protagonist and writing style totally change--and it totally works. Think I'm getting the hang of the thing itself now. But you never know.

Oh well, not as great as I thought, but still very good. It is the first Adam Roberts book wherein I’ve had to skip a bit. I really can’t be doing with unpunctuated text. Too confusing. It’s only one chapter so far so fingers crossed he won’t do it again. Aside from that, it’s a great read.

Insightful and often funny as this is, I’m going to have to pause here and catch up on my Wells reading before going further. Great book though.

It’s not often that you get to chuckle along with such an academic book. It’s sooooo good!

Mr Roberts doesn’t hide his influences but as he most often out shines those upon whose shoulders he stands, I shall mention no names. Safe to say that his stories are founded in storytelling thousands of years old. His imagination is mythic. His novels bear favourable comparison with the genre greats. And Stone is no exception. The prose and style are literary of the highest quality, but also crystal clear and fun

Not as dynamic as the other books of his I’ve read. The tension mounts, however, as we approach the inevitable conflict.

Adams’ delivery of two conflicting perspectives is so evenhanded I find myself routing for one side knowing full well many readers would definitely prefer the other. This is beyond good and evil. A breathtaking debut.
