i understand part-memoir part-essay is the bread & butter for marketable non-fiction these days but this one is a little too heavy on the self-importance, i find myself having to weed through a lot of chatter to get to the actual info i want

incredibly upsetting read. managed to endure the first chapter on incel culture, but i honestly don’t know if i have the strength to finish this one. bates is so strong 💔

picked this up on a whim and didn’t even realise i already had it on my want to read list lmaoo

constance’s cadence is so eerie, i don’t want to believe what the townsfolk say about constance and merricat because i believe this book follows the same criticism of blind mass movement of hatred/violence as the lottery, but the placating tone and repeated “you’re so silly, merricat” starts to feels more disconcerting than comforting
