Very interesting to see how Guerrero was hated by a lot of people but still came out in top because of his genius. Mi rey

If this is the love triangle my friend was talking about, I swear.

The caste system worked differently than I realized - pure natives were treated better than those mixed with Spanish blood, which is surprising.

Interesting worldbuilding, but I can’t say I’m impressed yet. It’s like they were trying too hard to make a fantasy rip-off of the Hunger Games make sense. Cringing at the romance hint we’re already getting too. Willing to continue giving this a chance though — I hope I don’t regret it…
Getting major Sirius and Regulus Black vibes from Hendrey and Alistair.

Interesting section spotlighting the injustices of the Spanish crown:
- They did not pay the tobacco planters the full price for their tobacco; in fact they paid an extremely low price and then manufactured it or resold it from there (presumably at a higher price)
- They however did not impede the cattle business (because it wasn’t up to par with Spain’s at the time anyway).
- More notes but character limit

Papa wanted me to dig.”

It is still chilling to me to think about how many people tried to cross the wall in just that way and were killed.

I’m sure the book will have a happy ending and the family will be reunited, but I worry what obstacles they’ll face trying to do this.

The book is heavily implying that the teacher murder is for sure what Joyce saw. I hope that this doesn’t turn out to be a trick 😭😭 Nora though…I wonder what happened to Nora.
