The fact that Mrs. Little just straight dipped seems odd to me, especially concerning how passionate she was as an educator. These children are already enduring several struggles, they don't necessarily need their teacher leaving for more [irl] character development. I'm interested in seeing how this is justified, especially as she was so haughty about her teaching style in the beginning of the novel.

To connect to the beginning (pt 2, my pt 1 of this review ran out of space), by establishing that “First of all, this book is not the inspirational tale of a messianic schoolteacher. In this book, the students are the heroes and heroines, the ones with the inspirational stories.”, the author truly portrays Mrs. Little as a proctor, which also helps this book in depth. See pt 1 for commentary please!

The way that And Still We Rise elaborates on the teachers' perspectives of their students' struggles with poverty, teen pregnancy, and abuse deepens the depth of how this novel portrays adversary for gifted teens. The conversation turns into a full perspective when the author began to bring in Mrs. Little, and by furthering it into the recent chapters of her disappointment and pride it truly finishes out the book.

This book is still incredibly phenomenal, and the unique writing style has not faltered from the start. I love how developed the plot is, and the author truly has a way with words that create an ambiance unique to The Hate U Give.

The switching of POVs is still something I'm not quite used to, and it can be startling going from the experiences of a teenaged mother to an English teacher. However, disregarding that certain point the journalistic style of the recent chapters is appreciated and And Still We Rise remains a book I'm glad I chose.

So far the novel has touched on a variety of notable subjects, including thoughts on college and personal poverty. These aspects of the book truly make it stand out as informational/non-fiction as a positive, however it also highlights that a reporter is behind the words. I get so excited when I see things in this novel that I recognize. While I may not be from an uber rich family or a law professor, it's exciting to be able to read things I relate to (I too am an American born Chinese! I call my grandma Ah Ma! I've been to the Malay peninsula!). Reading little nuances about my culture that relate to the actual plot gets me so hyped to read further into this book. Wish I had $ tho.

This book isn’t a very word-based novel, most of the emotions and points it tries to portray are done so through images. Generally, I don’t like books with a large amount of photos, but I would count this as an exception.

It’s still a currently ongoing series, but to the extent that I’ve read, what’s published has been super captivating! The art style fits the series itself phenomenally, and I love how the author writes the merge between modern and Ancient Greek themes.

To be honest, while I liked previous books in this serious more, my opinion of the novel has improved as I’ve progressed. In the beginning I felt trepidation over continuing and considered switching books (I’m a fan of fast-paced beginnings), but I now notice that this book paced itself fairly well even after a somewhat slow start. So far it’s a 4/5 I would say!

Pacing is somewhat slow, but plot is still engrossing. To be honest, the prior books in the series were better.

The theme of historical reference is one I find interesting, Brown’s constant alluding to free masonry and historical events add an underlying note that grounds the book in a way that uplifts how the plot is being written.

It’s somewhat dull compared to previous books in the serious, although it’s definitely not terrible.
