Up to this point, it is not as good as I remember.

Introducing new characters and their backstory just thirty pages away from the ending!! Eh!!

The hell!! Fontaine, Nino, and Jules should have been scraped off the book. The pelvic surgery is the most disturbing thing I've read in a long time. Jules is unbearable and phony as fuck.

Picks up well, and the stakes are as high as they could be.

The patience I summon to drag through is ultrahuman.

So real I am rocking between getting sucked in it and grossed by it.

So far, a great concept, but the narrator is off.

In the Second Half of the Second Act, the protagonist has a revelation and the action picks up as a result. In the middle of it, the Second Pinch Point happens and it foreshadows the end.

Second Act: the first half of it is about the characters responding to the First Plot Point in the First Act.
Then comes the Pinchpoint where the protagonist is defeated. It forces the character to change his tactics, which sets up the scenes to the climax.
Midpoint: in the middle of the Second Act where the character does not only react but acts out against the antagonist. It leads the protagonist to the end.

The first chapter must entice and guide the readers.
Ditch prologue (creates distance, so weave its info into the meat of the story) and dreams create (confusion and rumblings).
Use foreshadowing with care.
Make backstory a looming shadow. Do not give it away unless it is a must and should be placed artfully. Flashback it if necessary with no gritty details.

The Hook: The first line of a story.
First Plot Point: Happens at the 25% mark.
The Hook question: it can be answered in the same scene to keep the readers invested.
The Dramatic question: the one for the entirety of the book.
Before the 25%, characters, settings, and actions should be introduced.
Characteristic Moment: The character is first presented doing something that foreshadows later actions. A response.

It is thorough but the style of writing is so mentally demanding.
