does this man have a job.

wouldnt be caught dead drinking the water kindly left in water jugs for people out in the heat? well okay.

"and he spits a kind of ebony ejaculate making bagger wonder if all soldiers produce such wicked semen now capable only of propagating an offspring of stone-hearted destroyers" this is a sentence about a man who has been gassed and is apparently spitting up black parts of his lungs/blood.

pulitzer, is this rage engagement.

"and he hears a voice...and this undertone is from a yet uninvented keyboard called voice"

oh no, not again.

i actually had to check that i hadn't already read this, its so similar to the other kingfisher book. single 35 yo woman with a pet, makes friends with coffee shop person, is quirky, has family member who needs help at their place and spookiness ensues. far too much xennial for me so far. damn book club.

this is a possible dnf. it starts immediately with the body of murdered woman and a crime investigation which is already blehhhhh, and the writing is a lot for something that already almost tapped me out with crime bs.

born rich, never work for anything, doesnt like women, only spends time with men, is proud to be considered an "honorary man" AND shes anti womens suffrage because, although SHE is smart enough to make good choices, so many women are too stupid and busy caring for kids to understand politics, so, um, yeah this book about a victorian woman helping to make borders in the mid east is going exactly as expected.

what happens when i get a rec from a rando at the library.

i dont know if i will make it, this feels like gillian flynn by like, way dumber and written by a middle schooler trying to sound like an adult while simultaneously also making the child have adult thoughts.

how many uninteresting and uninformative throw away lines about her presumably dead sister will i be subjected to before something happens?

did some bad guys read this book and think "hey this is a great idea, why dont we do this." cause.

NOT THE MAGAS
Octavia, wtf

not the food prices skyrocketing. Ma'am.

Not the measles.

Octavia.

'that held a brackish kind of fresh water, neither one thing nor the other.'

um. there actually is a word for that kind of water and it is brackish tho...

FIRE HAS ITS OWN AGENCY MANIFESTING AS SOMETHING AKIN TO WILL. bruh. this is supposed to be a non-fiction book.

having a hard time with all this anthropomorphizing. Fire is a hunter, like man. fire is ALIVE, look at how it reproduces itself etc. Fire is moving like an army, look at all these different units im gonna explain in depth for some reason.

so and so is gonna be mad ben is talking to his girl.
who gives a fuck what he thinks, she can do what she wants.

1970s stephen, you surprised me.

'the line of her cleavage seemed to run clear up to her chin and was deep enough to lose thoughts in.'

ok.

'every husband hates his wife and can't wait to be away from her but when she dies, who will do all the chores and manage his life for him'

k.

the topic is good but why am i getting the exact details of what some random passerby on the street thinks of something? That is made up.

the plot has not moved in 100 pages.

attempt two at this book. can i make it this time

wait. he hates the coast guard? The coast guard???

page one an this guy is talking about his dead dad that he had a bad relationship with. oh no.

there's a guy who thinks hes very smart and loves being in charge and he actively tries to discredit another dudes ideas so he himself can be right. And their ideas are about how to manage the mississippi river, in a book about a flood of the river. I wonder what the problem will turn out to be. It couldnt possibly be related to ego and power hungry narcissist making decisions rather than science and evidence right?
