I attended Cardinal Stritch High School in Oregon, Ohio, just outside Toledo. Groundbreaking for the new school was in September of 1960 (I was not yet 5), and it opened for classes in the fall of 1961. Its first principal, Monsignor Michael J. Walz, had been pastor at my church prior to this assignment. So, because I have too much of a nostalgia bug in my system, I decided to buy this book when I saw it on eBay.

A friend was in town briefly the other day, and one of the places she wanted to visit was City Lights Books. I've read a couple of biographies of Simone de Beauvoir as well as her America Day By Day (which I loved) and have been intrigued by her, so when I saw her eyes staring at me from the cover of this book on display, I couldn't help myself.
