My top priority dead languages to learn:
Akkadian cuneiform (currently working on rn. The Library of Ashurbanipal isn't done expanding just cause they finished excavations in the 1910s. We can still write more tablets to fill up those shelves!)
Mayan (next up after I master writing in Akkadian. This dead language desperately needs more written works, as there are only 4 ancient texts on paper.)

There are only 4 Mayan ancient Mayan books still in existence, because they were mostly all burned by colonists. And this is why I want to learn dead languages to revive them. I want to write in them, to create new works in something so old that time might eventually lose it otherwise.

So many fascinating places. And a few that don't exist anymore.

It usually takes me a while with manga and comics to feel like I've got a good grasp on the characters. I feel like I already understand all the main characters we've been introduced to. Neato

Rin is reading a book called "how to make your own secret society." Ok who told her about the Nibbler? Jealous, much? (Kidding)

Why is it that every time I look up something from in this series, I find a reddit post talking about that exact thing, and all the comments are basically, "been reading laid-back camp?" Is this the only reason people in the US know about certain niche Japanese things? I'm sure there are people who know about this stuff that aren't people who read this manga. Or maybe the L-BC fandom is just really annoying online.

1. This book has so much great information. I only wish it was longer and had more info.
2. How is it that this is the only book illustrated by Joe Lillington that we have at our library? He has so many great history books. I'm going to try finding some of them elsewhere, because I love his art.

I like this part. Lots of ideas for cheap supplies you can use - old books, postcards, stamps, different types of glue, etc.

Interesting ideas in here, embellished with a lot more waxing poetic than I really need. I feel like this could have been edited down and then had more stuff in it. Granted, I too am very wordy when I write. I am incapable of being short and to the point. So I have no room to talk.

This book keeps going in interesting directions.

Well she's a jerk. Good thing she's spent most of the book not talking. I liked it better when she didn't open her mouth except to spew flames in battle. I bet they'll eventually get through to her, but probably not for a while.

Is any of the world building explained? Nope. Do we know what's really happening with this war? Nope. Is Raina overly emotional at the most inconvenient times? Yes. This has the same wishy-washy-ness from his debut, but this time with a plot bigger than family politics. I fully understand everyone's criticisms, and to some degree I agree. But I read to have fun, and I am having fun :3

Ok so it's not exactly monster hunting like I said earlier. It's more like protecting this girl from monsters. Some are big. Some are little. The little ones are typically bugs.

RUDE. Mermaid girl just insulted foxes. The whole "damp, matted, smelly" thing as she puts it isn't that bad unless they're inside. And they're going to the beach so it should be fine.

2. Was no one going to tell me the mermaid is a monster hunter????? How did I miss that????? It's not just mermaid yuri. It's also monster hunting! They're like weird bugs, or at least that's what I've seen so far.
3. Also, tw depression and suicide ideation for all those who might want to read it. Our main girl is going through it.

I can definitely see why this is not a book for everyone, but I like it.

Translation work is very slow going. At least now that they're fighting skeletons I am mostly only translating "freezing spell" or "exploding spell" which are easy to figure out. The hard ones are the tiny writing on the maze walls, which talk about these mythological figures I don't think we've been introduced to yet.

All three of them are insane. Well, I mean, they are attached.

Reminds me of the guy from Abarat with antlers, and each one has a part of his personality. One of the three dragon heads has it together. One is basically a dog. And the other thinks it's human.

Resi did not deserve what happened to her.

Konrad is so much more annoying in his 30s than he was in his 40s in the main series. Because at least in the main series he's not pretending to care about appearances anymore.

These are 3-in-1 volumes, but since there are 11 volumes, which omnibus gets the short end of the stick and only has 2? I don't know which volumes to mark I've read. So I guess I'll translate the summaries on here and try to figure it out from that. Unless they all have the same generic summary...I hope not or else this will get very confusing.

Hold finally came in yay!

Decoding everything takes so long...but it's worth it. I've been getting more subtle details about Bruno's story. Something more about the bird and the stone. And now I understand some of the old ones that got repeated in this volume.
