I am aware i have just invested emotionally and physically in an incomplete series.

Happily, I joined the others waiting by the fire for the Doors of Stone to open.

This book has been soo good, I talked my husband into reading it with me. Now I will not be alone in my wait.

I am no stranger to waiting for unfinished stories, but this one has stolen my heart.

It was at first a fun read. The characters were a bit flimsy and convenient at times, but story content was ok.
But now I'm starting to trip over contradiction after contradiction. Characters are counter thier personality, situational descriptions, and story plot points are all starting to undo what was already established in an unorganized way.
It's definatly slowed my reading pace down.

I wanted to push through and finish this book. But my desire to read dies when I start to read.
The authors inability to play dumb and the need to overcompensate with being smart by interjecting big words feels forced. Often, the plot armor for S.T.'s intelligence is thin at best, covering over a lack of character development off the page.
The storyline is meandering and pointless. It wanders in aimless direction.

So far I am bit dissapointed. This book has some virtue signaling and some shoehorned inclusivity that was absent from her previous writings.
I enjoyed the fact that her characters were who they were and needed no explination or justification to the reader as to their orientations or preferences. They just were their honest selves.
I dont need you to justify why your character is a they/them. Just be a they/them.

In typical Muir fashion I have very little idea what's really going on and despite rereading the first two books I am still very much in the dark. BUT, I am trusting Muir to do what she does best and that's lead you through a confusing labyrinth of details thats end up being one wild amazing beautiful ride.

So I'm confused but I'm happy about it.

So far this books hitting home in a very personal way.
As somone whos both the older sister and the child... its nice to know were not alone and addiction affects everyone.

The writing is vulnerable, honest and heart felt.

I love the macab setting, the mysterious air about the characters and their current conditions.
Sadly, I am dragged out of the miasma of the story in a bad way by the need to interject unnessary details such as a whole new pronoun structure, subject side steps to shoe horn genderbending details that give nothing more to the story other then being forcefully inclusive.
Why so much unnessary hate for americans?

So far I am impressed.
I enjoy the characters and the story started off strong.
My only critique is: becareful of meta knowlage that the writer knows but the the audience doesn't. Its easy for the author to assume the audience knows more then they do.
Also we entered right into a high intensity scene but the writing lacked some of the intensity, so the audience doesnt feel the danger as much as they should.

So far its still meh for me.
I want to really like the story but at times I find it hard to want to read this book over others.
There are long drawn out parts centered around nothing and so far all the extra details dont enhance the story any. Often slowing the story down to privide world building tid bits that act more like speed bumps then story enrichment.
Where the exciting parts fly by in just a page or two.
