So far my biggest takeaway is that Jamal is annoying af. It's like he understands the severity of the situation he's in, and despite that, continues to do or try to do things that is counterproductive to his survival or well-being. It's infuriating!

I'm calling it with this one. I only have the patience for one unenjoyable book this month. I have no energy or interest in finishing this. The writing isn't the best. The plot and story is ridiculous & barely believable. The women in this book are all insecure and have no self worth/respect, and the main male character is immature, unlikable, lacks respect, is full of bravado and wholly unattractive. On to the next!

48% Through and this is going to have to be a DNF for me. I've been trying, but i'm just not into it. And I made a promise to myself YEARS ago that I would only read what I enjoy. That I wouldn't spend my time trying to FORCE things. It kills me because i'm DYING to find a Black Fantasy to fall in love with...but I need to FALL in love, not be dragged...so on to the next!

Not even 100 pages in, and I'm already absolutely obsessed. Like, fully in love with Ace in Lourdes. Fully invested..... how does Rae Lyse keep dropping these BANGERS?!?! I'm honestly confused.

this is crazy....I'm really about to DNF this book at 80% through. But I just can't do it! I tried!!! But I can't. There are just not stakes in this book for me. Dom and Zoree's reunion was too effortless, any and all conflict is minor and almost immediately wrapped up. The "secret" or "twist" of Zoree's past and why she left was predictable and fully telegraphed, and now after the latest resolution I just. I CAN'T!

The first couple of chapters in this book is highlighting just how easy it is to become an unreliable narrator when it comes to witnessing a crime or being involved in a traumatic experience.

yea its going to be a no for me on this one. its been so long since i picked this up, i barely remember whats going on and have completely lost interest.

Man, Nia is really trying to put me out of my comfort zone with these stories. Infidelity is like my BIGGEST non-starter for me. Like it's SO hard for me to root for and enjoy the story. BUT....I Literally just updated my 2022 reading goals to include finishing Nias catalogue. So let's see if she works her magic with this story and if I somehow end up enjoying it despite my misgivings about the premise.
