Reading this to my daughter and I am slightly disappointed with the speed compared to the last one. Maybe because everything was new and exciting before, but I feel like this book is so slow. And dragging on. And I’m already sick of “Stephano”’s BS. It’s going to be a long series of putting up with him… and wtf I don’t remember this book being quite so messed up!!

Kip sounds like an idiot in the audio book 😅. This is very much a feel good book and considering how heavy life feels right now… it’s ok. Very low stakes, very steamy.

Started off strong. Got weird and annoying in the middle. Towards the end it’s still a bit weird but I’m enjoying it.

DNF. It wasn’t for me. But maybe it would be better to read instead of listening via audiobook.

DNF. This is so bad. But I remember really liking it in high school… along with all of her other books. Hits different as an adult. Just absolutely ridiculous, over the top. Very unrealistic imo.

Chapter 134 aka in book 2 - idk how else to track this. Im rereading again and it’s become my whole personality AGAIN. I love these characters so much and I love the realistic dialogue. Ive read so many mid books this year I needed to FEEL something. I chuckle along with the stupid antics, smile at the teenage love, and cry with their pain. JKR was good but not this good. MKB understands the teenage experience.

The dialogue is so cheesy. The MC’s inner monologue is embarrassingly juvenile. She’s annoying and immature. The magic leaves a lot to be desired; this is not HP level of world building.

really wish the MC had more personality than: woman PI 🕵️‍♀️, secret alcoholic, sad sister/mama drama, wah im not magic, poor taste in men.

I feel like this was written by a 21 year old.

At this point of the plot, I don’t understand how I have almost 1/2 the book left. It feels like it should be almost over.
I couldn’t care less about the male main character. He doesn’t deserve 1/2 of the narrative. &the guy who does the audio voice of him drives me nuts. What is with this whisper-talk?? SPEAK UP!! This could be adding to my dislike of the character… and the fact that he’s awful.

I could be looking into it too much, but I think there are some parts of how the capital acts that reminds me of our current government. I.e. the extreme patriotism, Snow’s face on everything 🙄 because it’s all about him.

Much faster reading now that I have the audiobook. So far it’s a sad and lonesome story. Depressing as hell.

Robin’s words are so beautiful and impactful. I want to be friends with her and really live what she is speaking. Respect for the natural world is something I hope to instill upon my daughter as she grows up. But it’s so easy to get caught up in life and forget to be thankful for the gifts from Mother Earth, especially when we buy most everyday items from a store. Need to do better. Need to LIVE better!

Slow going. It’s unnecessarily wordy and it’s coming off as pretentious. Also, very disturbing. It’s amazing that the show was created based on this story. The vibes are just sooooo different.

You get a good flight scene pretty early on and then it gets political quickly. I forgot how much I hate the politics in this series…

I’m really close to making this a DNF. Some of the descriptions of people/animals are really crude and makes me uncomfortable. You can tell a guy wrote this book. Also, I hate all the racing references. Like I get it, the guy drives a race car professionally, but it’s a bit much. Guess I thought the title was more of a metaphor for something and not literally about driving in the rain.

Snape having redeeming qualities always gets me by surprise. The build up of his hatred of Harry is a little too much to then have him be this fairy godmother like person to him behind the scenes… I still hate him. He only did it for Lilly and made Harry’s life at school extra terrible. Like couldn’t he have just ignored him?? Grow up. But also thanks for keeping Harry safe 🥰
