Shandell had met the Binna Binna Man, who punished her for not respecting the old ways. She later is 'healed' by the same spirit, and learns an important lesson. This section was very meaningful, and shows how we can go and do great things in life, but at the end of the day, we need to remember who we are.

Silence was in the air, this chapter was filled with tears and mourning. The protagonist felt suffocated in during the funeral, and couldn't bear to see his relative in a coffin. He has the great desire to leave. As the family says their tragic goodbyes, tears shed. Later, some relatives resort to alcohol and smoking. A cousin, Shandell, becomes drunk after consuming alcohol. She is later found very weak on the floor

The mood in this chapter rapidly shifted from cheerful and bright to dark and sombre. As the protagonist's family makes their way to their relatives' home, they feel the presence of the Binna Binna Man. Fear rises in the air as they hurriedly try to force their old car back on track. When they reach their destination, they prepare for a rather sad event, the funeral of Sister Girl. The boy doesn't feel comfortable.

The book is a sequel of 'My Girragundji', written by the same authors. The protagonist is travelling to a place called Yarrie with his family. He seems to have recovered from the loss of his frog, as he can still he it's voice calling out to him; this has has helped him through tough situations.

The protagonist, who once went to bed each night, paranoid that the 'Hairyman' would reach out and take him away. One day, a little green tree frog, a Girragundji, comes to visit him. He believes that the little frog is a guardian, sent to him by his ancestors to protect him. With the frog, the boy gains confidence in himself, and is no longer afraid of the Hairyman.

A young, Indigenous Australian boy goes to sleep each night, paranoid that someday, the 'Hairyman' would finally come to get him. He goes through trauma and fear each day. One day, a small green treefrog, a Girigundji, comes to the boy, giving him hope.

An Irish girl named Bridget must leave her beautiful, green homeland in order for her family to survive. She experiences the hardships at sea, and develops a love for horses. As she travels to Australia, Bridget feels as if she is losing everyone she loves; her mother, grandmother, father, and sister are all gone. She learns that the new land of Australia can be just as cruel as Ireland, but soon, she calls it home.

As time flies, and Mary's friendships with Colin and the friendly boy, named Dickon, strengthen, her personality begins to change. Along with Mary, Colin soon changes as well. He learns that the only cure for his illness, is not medicine or sleep, but spending times being happy with friends in the fresh air. The three friends explore and tend for their secret garden each day, growing happier and more cheerful.

This book is set in China and uses influences from Chinese culture.

Coraline is bored of her life, nothing ever happens. Her parents are both always busy. She enters a world completely opposite of her own. The food is delicious, the world is interesting and she is happy. But then, Coraline misses her home. Her other mother wants to keep her here, to change her forever. As I read more of the story, I got more spooked. I actually think the movie might be less creepy than the book.

It's an interesting book that teaches you that you can go wherever you want to go, as long as you try hard and don't give up. It also teaches you that things don't always end up as planned, but you should still get back up and try again.

So far, the story starts off normally. Then, it gets mildly creepy. The illustrations made it worse. Although, it's not as bad as I thought it would be.

They return home, Grendel's head on a spike. King Hrothgar treats Beowulf like his own son. All is well, but little did they know what was coming at them. Something far more dangerous than the beasts, Grendel and his mother...

Beowulf and the people of Heorot rejoice... only to be attacked by Grendel's mother who wanted to avenge her only son! Beowulf ventures out yet again to defeat the last of this murderous family. He succeeds, but only just. Just as he is at the brink of death, Beowulf seizes an ornamental sword hanging on the wall of the cave, where the sea hag was about to do her death strike. He slits her neck. They return happily

I loved the way Michael Morpurgo described the battle between Beowulf and Grendel. It was really brutal and gruesome. I could imagine the action in my mind, like a mini projector projecting images up there. I could imagine the ripping of Grendel's tendrils, the muscles twisting, the bones snapping. It made me queasy to think about it.

I realised that the monster really wasn't evil at all. It was just trying to heal Connor, to let go, to tell the truth. The three stories that the monster told had finally made sense. With the monster by his side, Connor was ready to face his greatest fear. With that, Connor's mother slipped away from him, no matter hard he held on. He knew the time would come...

The monster visits Connor when he calls for it. This is probably why the title is 'A Monster Calls'. The monster starts telling Connor stories, stories with quite unexpected endings. At this point, I don't think the monster is particularly bad, but just trying to prepare Connor and help him during his toughest situations. I think Connor is trying his best to ignore the fact that his mother is terribly ill...
