The protagonist, who once went to bed each night, paranoid that the 'Hairyman' would reach out and take him away. One day, a little green tree frog, a Girragundji, comes to visit him. He believes that the little frog is a guardian, sent to him by his ancestors to protect him. With the frog, the boy gains confidence in himself, and is no longer afraid of the Hairyman.
