Ok, he's talking about the snakes themselves now, and it's getting interesting.

It only took half the book.

Yes, I finished it and am going back to read it right away.

Halloween keeps calling the Genesis story "Paradise eternally Lost," and I find this insertion increasingly irritating.

So far ok, but nothing striking

Why?

I know Adams for her mysteries. I would love to read more of her horror.

Getting bored. Also, why can't our scholarly protagonist just *ask* for the artifact she thinks the college has? And why the lectures on folklore? And what academic department is she in, anyway?

Ummm. Pre-ordering this might have been a mistake. I have read the short story this grew from, and so far, I like it a lot better.

The characters are all rather flat so far.

This is turning into a soap opera. Not what I signed on for.

I think I'm going to enjoy this series immensely.

Everything is awful and it's mostly because of the United States.

So far, this is not about clothing, it is about cloth, and all means of producing cloth are evil

There's a vague yearning for preondustrial life, but the little covered made cloth production seem arduous then as well.

Cooney sure takes Egyptian happenings personally. She's currently railing against Akhenaten.

So far, the book is just this side of readable; there's enough solid information to keep it worthwhile, but also a lot of speculation on how people felt and emotional evaluation of events.

The authors talk about having sooooo many resources they couldn't possibly list them all in the book. This is not true. Their bibliography is about average in length.

Supplementary noted are fine, but nor including the works cited in the book is abominable

So far, they have spent a long time saying not much. I cannot begin to tell you how much I hate their decision not to include their sources *in the text.* They claim that there were "too many," so they put them on the website where they can be updated. I don't want updated sources and notes! I want to know what they uses in the book I am reading!

Really enjoying this.

So far, this is more of a tour than a pilgrimage. I was expecting soul searching and a close examination of faith. Staying overnight at the occasional monastery is not the same thing as understanding or even attempting to understand the contemplative life or the faith that leads someone to choose it.

He sometimes joins monks at their meals, but not at their prayers.

It's quite frustrating.
