As reviews have said, the writing is extremely clumsy. Plus Helen’s backstory is a variation on a book both Liane Moriarty and J. Courtney Sullivan have already written better.

So this was never going to be more than a 2.5/5, but I planned to finish it for the present story about murder in a retirement community.

Always fun when an audiobook you've been dying to start anyway turns out to be read by someone you had a crush on as a kid.

Reaching an impasse with this one. I vastly enjoyed Sittenfeld's other four books, couldn't put them down really, but I'm not an Austenite. Uber-tired of P&P, in particular. Library book's about to be due for the third time, and this go-round I won't be on the waitlist. Someday?

I started the audiobook while driving to work yesterday. I was breathless within minutes, and it hasn't stopped.

This audiobook is read by Kate Mulgrew, aka Red in Orange is the New Black. I put off listening for weeks since I've had so many library books, but I reached my limit. Here we go!

I like to reread this book at Christmastime, because December always makes me think of it. This is partly because of a few holiday-related scenes in the middle, and it's partly because I first read Shopgirl on Christmas Eve, but I think it's also due to the book's lonely, hopeful, inevitable tone.

There is a story in here that is highly frightening if you were attacked by a goose in your childhood.
