Yinka’s unhinged approach to unemployment and singleness is jarring to read because it’s so unbearably real—lying through shame, losing herself, and making questionable decisions we’d all consider but never dare to admit. Few books have made me laugh out loud quite like this one.

Amazingly factual & profoundly concerning content.

I doubt this is meant to be a funny book. But my god it’s given me a few laughs ~

Like why are we, as a collective, like this??? Murder, lies, jealously, debauchery… these cult stories are very wow!

Having said that, I was expecting more in-depth linguistic analysis of cult(ish) language and feel the book isn’t living up to its title :/

Arguably the word “cult” is almost always pejorative, a way to describe groups we don’t like/accept/trust. Hence why it’s so hard to define ~

(Given my longstanding interest in the subject, I’m a bit embarrassed to have never thought of this looool)

Once we define something as a cult we give ourselves permission to distance from the very real/human issues these groups present.

Particularly enjoyed Voss’ comments about honesty & empathy w/in conflict.

A powerful reminder that negotiating is about resolving an issue; the person on the other side is your partner (not enemy).

The second half of this book is lovely!! I (and perhaps we as a society) need more positive stories like this ~

Love the overarching message that “nothings is inevitable”; we can and should advocate for the future we want 💫

Campbell does well to call out apathy as a dangerous emotion. Whether or not we choose to engage with politics or social justice we should never feel “it’s pointless”.

It wonder/worry about the growing trend of nihilism among GenZ. How do we challenge this?

I also wonder how social media can be a help or hindrance in this regard…

Not what I was expecting. The introduction (and title) set this out as a book to inspire the next generation of leaders. I was expecting inspirational words, signs of hope, and/or examples of monumental historic changes. Instead, the vast majority of this seems to be a depressing retelling/explanation of the recent miserable politic landscape.

The life she lived! I admire her consistent sense of gratitude, admiration, and love for the people she met both on and off the stage ~

Also, like her thoughts on lifelong learning. Do the things you love just because you can, commit to your passion be it professionally or as a hobbyist.
