And despicable characters making you question your life choices for watching them in this book

Oh these characters are so horrible. But at least the narrator for was updated because nobody can listen to inaudible vocal fry without feeling a level of frustration and violence that is really unnecessary

Gggah. Just when you think they can't get any more despicable. There they go again.

All of these characters are brusk and kind of nasty. And it makes you question why you're bothering to spend time with them. I mean the mystery of the plot is the thing but I honestly can't listen to this for more than half an hour ago

Oh girl - you are vocal fry is so harsh I cannot make out what you are saying! How frustrating to have to rewind this chapter twice!

Why does it never occur to them to share their resources? We're almost year and a half into their two year commitment and yet none of them have thought of that. I mean they're intentionally being pushed apart by the powers that be but still....

IMHO IRL the intellectuals of academia that I have known are some of the most clueless people when it comes to common sense

They are all of them, every single one, despicable beings. And yet you can't stop reading - or listening - because they will remind you of somebody or some trait you dislike in someone. Fascinating

$672 pages. I can see why - because there's a lot of filler in this already. Do we really need a slow motion account of details that don't add anything to a scene? It reads like camera directions for a movie. Oh well buckle in it's book two and you know how that goes

I just don't know what to do with this book. I don't think I've been this angry out of shift in a character in years! So obviously I'm attached to it in some way because I'm having a reaction. But also the torture and suffering of the characters is so hardcore that you suffer along with them. Plus the sheer arrogant spinelessness of Xander is just so exhausting.

If this book was a tarot card it would be the 8 of swords.
She created her prison. Now we all have to stand back and watch her destroy herself when she could easily walk away.

Could she say no to being tortured - yes.
Could she just rescue the little birds they're holding as leverage over her? Yup.
Could she take out any men that are hurting her because she can shift into anything? Yep

Martyrdom is boring!

And this complete 180 in her character into martyrdom is so annoying. I'm so tired of series that start out so great and then suddenly everything goes to s*** because the author has abandoned their characters.

The problem with making your main character such an a******. Is that you don't really want to hang out with them.

And this book is pretty much just hanging out with the a****** and the delusional girl who lets herself be abused by him.

Kind of sad actually

We know going into this book that Sandra is an a******. But in the last book we had a lot of characters to offset his b*******. This book is all Xander a****** all the time.
And I don't like spending time with assholes.

Oh come on! So the stupid girl has given herself up in order to save her friends and maybe get vengeance for her mother's death. Of course she's entitled and thinks it's going to go away that she has in mind but no surprise it's turned into literally torture. But she has ways out constantly. Does she take them? No. Oh look here's another way out. Nope here's another way out, nope. plot holes on repeat🕳️

Oh no. The dreaded second book action is happening in the fourth book. Or should I say non-action. Why do authors always make their main character stupid for plot advancement. There are so many ways around this but this book is as full of holes as a Swiss cheese. I don't get it because the last two books were, frankly in my top five so this is disappointing

THIS is what five star narration is all about! When you forget that there is literally one man but he's doing 7 to 10 accents and doing them sometimes in tandem. Unbelievably good

Okay. This author just redeemed herself enough for me to continue this series.

Am I still reading this book 5 months later? Yes. Yes I am. And you know what? I like that it's going slow. It suits the story and the story is good. So this is an update on me really not the book. Just thought I'd share :-)

I don't think it's a spoiler to speculate that the Quicksilver is actually the missing gods. I mean it's so obvious why can't the characters in the book figure it out even though they literally had millennia with their best brains to think about it. Still an excellent story I just hope it doesn't Edge into let's make everybody stupid for plot advancement because you know. : /
