Not entirely what I expected, but a fascinating summation of primary sources research.

Ugh, emotions.

Culture in transition, philosophy, and horror content that's about to move into a courtroom drama. What more could you want in a non-fiction read?

In "Network Effect", Murderbot referring to the research transport as ART makes even more sense than when it was introduced in "Artificial Condition."

Finally onto Network Effect and greatly enjoying it so far.

I should probably make more of an effort to finish this before the end of the year.

If it's Christmas time, I'm back to chipping away at this anthology:
"The Haunted Crescent" by Peter Lovesy: Fantastic story that sticks the ending.
"A Christmas in Camp" by Edmund Cox: A Scooby Doo episode under the British Raj. Setting overshadows the cleverness of the plot.
"The Christmas Bogey" by Pat Frank: A fantastic Cold War narrative.
"The Killer Christian" by Andrew Klavan: Extremely engaging.

I don't think I can continue with this book. Not in the mood for a story with characters agonizing for 100s of pages instead of having an air clearing conversation.

Lots of queer pain and not a lot of insight as to the identity of the arsonist.

A queer-punk turned Catholic nun trying to solve a mystery in New Orleans? Yes, I am definitely enjoying it so far.

Harrowhawk and Gideon's dynamic is a bit grating, but the world building is fantastic.

“Miss Gentilbelle” is gothic horror that I think may have inspired elements in the film “Sleepaway Camp.”

“The Vanishing American” seems like a story that Rod Serling would have adapted for “The Twilight Zone”.

Starts out with a punch, then slows down a bit. Still, an intriguing beginning.

The American non-human mutant movie section is largely a bunch of Them! imitators.

The early parts of this book don't make for escapist reading if you too are being forced to move locations because of the whim of your boss.

I may quit this novel here. It's at a solid stopping point, and I am not particularly interested in another 200 pages of this narrative.

Shades of Sylvia Plath and Brett Easten Ellis in the style of prose.
