I've never read the fanfic, I'm just reading this as a regular story for my bookclub. Although there's a lot of misery and torture so far, I'm enjoying the mystery element and the lich setting.

So would you expect a book with this cover to be some adorable goofy story about young adults trying to solve a vampire curse and accidentally falling in love? Nope, me neither, but I'm here for it.

It's soooo goofy and cute 🤣🤣🤣 it's very very young adult.

I had a bookclub about this recently, which convinced me to give book 2 a try. So here I am, continuing book 1 where I left off in 2023.
Apparently the first half is the worst, since the side characters are getting interesting and there are signs that Darrow might develop a personality trait.
The writing style still spams short sentences though, and Darrow must have read this book already because he knows everything.

So far, while interesting, the world-building and plot feel messy and not thought through well. I'm hoping this gets better.

I'm finally reading this after a thousand years, and the concept for the plot is really interesting. So many questions, but fascinating characters!

His writing style is super chaotic but the murderer is really interesting.

I still like this silly series :) good for in between heavier reads.

oh my, I didn't realise this was part of some sort of series when I randomly picked it up in a bookstore. Still readable if you know nothing about the other books though!

Slooooow start, but the political scheming really works once it gets going.

And here, I almost threw this book into the trash 🤮

I picked this up because I think it will give me a laugh, and the beginning promises me I'm right 🤭 also how could I resist the cover, that TEAR 😂

Still great, it uses what's already happened or discussed in the following chapters, building and evolving the story :)

This knows exactly what it's doing 😂 I read some romantasy books to laugh at the silly tropes and just have a fun quick read. This book definitely knows them too, using them in a tongue-in-cheek way. His jaw is so sharp he could cut something, "he's the villain but oh no he's hot" on PAGE 7 😆😆😆😂🫡

Why yes I've been devouring books this week. Also this one's starting out pretty good, finally some world-building and I don't mind this kind of plot now and then (amnesia plot). It does feel like a very different book from the first one though.

Crazy, very 18+ and actually fascinating so far. Definitely reading more of this interesting monstrosity.
Note: This is NOT like the movie/musical haha, be warned!

I hated the first 19 pages with every fibre of my being, but from page 19 it suddenly did a 180 in a positive way. Hope it stays that way

I give up, I loathe reading this.

Characters in this book nicknamed their great common nemesis "The Woman" 🙄 Well guess what, I'm the woman who will fling this book out the window if this keeps up.

Travel porn meets badly written tropes so far.

What is going on these last few pages? "The confidence of a mediocre white man", what a horrible teacher. You don't get points across by hating back to the other party, come on now, we can do better than this nonsense.

Congratulations, MC, you've created all your extremely easily solvable problems by yourself. She has a thousand ways of fixing this instantly, tsk.

Olive.... SERIOUSLY? She keeps lying! For stupid, stupid, ridiculous reasons, to the people she should trust most.

I don't like Anh (so pushy and judgemental) and Tom (huge ass vibes), but the romance is still cute so good job.

A friend gifted me this, so here I'm reading it after all.
So far, the good: the romance is cute actually
The bad: don't think even one second about whether the protagonist's actions or other details make sense. Don't read if you can't handle stupidity, because it goes there big time.

Sexualizing a grandma, interesting choice. If I read something about her body and its splendour at the age of 16/17 again, I'm going to lose it.

I like the philosophical and psychological ideas in this at least. Death is an interesting topic.

I'm a little sad that the focus is on a lot of the mundane and it's a bit predictable (you can guess everything from the author's introduction, I'm so sad...), but I think I'll finish it.
