I'm not ready to read literary fiction yet. My brain can't process the language.

Angela is on page 274 of 356 of The Death of the Artist: How Creators Are Struggling to Survive in the Age of Billionaires and Big Tech
With the proliferation of AI, I think there needs to be a fifth paradigm. No longer is the artist a producer, which Deresiewicz describes as "free particles in the marketplace, finding what work we can for what money we can, and exposed without protection to the market's whims." I think artists are nurturing AI to take over the producer role, leaving artists with a new role that has not been defined yet.

Finally! I feel like someone understands me. Both Lin and I are the same age, grew up during the same time period with an assimilated Asian American family, and ended up writing for our lives. And both of us have experiences that have made us either exit or (soon to retire) from the business. Enlightening and relieving all at once!

I'm glad I stuck it with the awkward and cluttered first chapter. Between too many characters and a clunky meet-cute I wasn't sure if I wanted to read any further. Now that the major dramatic question has been introduced and the two leads are squaring off, I am enjoying the humor.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this memoir. I read so many mixed reviews that I anticipated skipping over major portions and gleaning only tidbits to use in my creative writing classes. Not so. Other than the first chapter, I've been slowly down and enjoying the process.

Finally, another character explained why Stacey isn't showing at 6 months! (She's too tall, over six feet, and her height masks her belly bump). No wonder I showed so much earlier (I'm barely five feet).

I love Susan Mallery, but I am struggling with believing a six-month-pregnant woman can hide a baby bump from her mother during a hug at a family gathering. Am I the only first-time mother who showed at four months? All my subsequent pregnancies showed at three months because my body remembered. But six months? Really? Show me some skinny women with no baby bumps at six months.

Angela is starting Sweet Like Jasmine: Finding Identity in a Culture of Loneliness
I just finished reading chapter two. The short memoirs, followed by letters to the younger self, and Bible quotes and discussion exercises make this book an interactive exploration of hope and healing for anyone who has ever felt different regardless of one's upbringing or background.

My favorite novel of the year. A modern day One Hundred Years of Solitude about LA and Mexico and the diversity of the intersection of culture, class, and nature.

Just finished Age of Love. Witty, profound, and worth the price of the entire book. I'll be reading this story again and again throughout the rest of my life. How can this writer be so wise and clever and funny and heartfelt all at the same time?

The first short story, "Keith Prime," reminded me of Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishisuro, only from a different point of view.
