'I'm not afraid of Andy,' said Trev. As a statement this was entirely true. He was not frightened of Andy. He was mortally terrified. to his boots and back again, with a visceral fear that dripped off his ribs like melting snow.

'Are you referring to the Loko business?' said Henry. 'You needn't look surprised.'
'I don't intend to. I am surprised,' said Vetinari, 'but please credit me with not looking surprised unless, of course, there is some advantage in doing so.'

'And so you tell them things, do you?'
Ponder sighed. 'Yes, of course.'
'I don't think I approve of that,' said Ridcully. 'I'm all for the free sharing of information, provided it's them sharing their information with us.'
'Yes, sir, but I think we're rather hampered by the meaning of the word "sharing".'

'That's no basis for a relationship! A polite thank you would have sufficed!'

The University Council at the time took the very decent view that it might be the moment for a leader who was not stupid, mad or dead. Admittedly, most of these are not exactly qualifications in the normal sense, but I like to think that the skill of leadership, tactics and creative cheating that I learned on the [rowing team] also stood me in good stead.

This time it was more desperate, yet somehow still tender, as he loosed his pent-up passion for the noble he had no right to share a meal with, let alone kiss.

The Green Man and Goddess seek both genders only because they are worthy. To crave both genders is a higher calling that neither mankind or witches could understand or deserve.

he saw in almost slow motion her eyes widen in surprise, and the immediate arrival of a faint blush on her cheeks as Fin was close enough that she could smell him.
He definitely smelled of sweat, and flour, but underneath all of that … he smelled like herbs. He smelled like garlic, mint, rosemary, lavender … How was that possible, and why did it smell good?!

“Anyway. I just wanted you to know why I’m doing this. I owed you that.”
“Go to hell.”
“Oh, I will, believe me. You three are going to Tau Ceti. The rest of us are going to hell. More accurately, hell is coming to us.”

“Is this really necessary?”
She pressed the intercom button. “There’s a very good chance the sample in that cylinder is an alien life-form. We’re not taking any chances.”
“Wait…you’re not taking any chances. But I am!”
“It’s not like that.”
“How is it not like that?”
She paused. “Okay, it’s exactly like that.”

Ich habe gar keine Enkel: Die Online-Omi räumt auf (Die Online-Omi, #10)
It’s really astonishing with Ilse: a complete stranger asks her for directions, and after two minutes he already knows how [her husband] is supposed to be laid to rest one day. She loves talking about that. If one were unkind, one could assume she can hardly wait. But that would be unfair: she’s glad she still has him. Even if she looks sad when she can't accompany Gertrud and I to the widows’ club.

“Oh, Mrs. Bergmann, what kind of adventure have you gotten yourself into this time? Is that why Mrs. Potter is out there dusting the rubber plant? You be careful!"

[People] are really touchy these days. The moment you don’t use your blinker, someone gets upset. Kurt says that anyone who knows him knows where he’s going, and anyone who doesn’t, well, it’s none of their business.

Well, we call it the ‘senior association’ these days, not the retiree club, otherwise people start feeling slighted.

I avoided explanation and maintained a continual silence concerning the wretch I had created. I had a persuasion that I should be supposed mad, and this in itself would forever have chained my tongue.

Schön wie die Acht (German Edition)
Relieved, I set the cup aside. Outside, yes. The forest. I don't know why, but I feel like no room of flat surfaces and corners and angles fits what I want to know. Instead, trees and roots and that wind that catches you in the back if you turn just right and, without you having to do anything, nudges you forward a little with every gust.

It certainly didn't change [Kai's] opinion on Blessed devices and how they seemed designed to wring the maximum discomfort out of anyone who used them. It explained why so many of the Immortal Blessed were so cranky.

"If you're pretending to be an Arike, remember you're an Arike woman."
"Oh right, I forgot." Dahin jammed his sun hat further down on his head as the wind tugged at it. "I'll pretend to be your wife, then."
Kai gave up on being angry. He put his arm around Dahin's shoulders and squeezed. "I would rather throw you into the sea than marry you."
"That's probably wise of you," Dahin admitted readily.

"Are you alright?"
She glanced down at him and admitted, "I am torn between the overwhelming desire for a hot bath and an anger so intense I could bite through my sword blade."
That was better. "If you bite any councillors, be sure to make it count."
