Read for my Latin class on Horace's Satires and Epistles which has lead me to have a great respect for the man. His satires especially are fascinating and his writing is witty and very enjoyable. Just some great work

I'm borrowing this from a friend of mine who is Orthodox (and may be trying to convert me lol kidding) but whom I had a long conversation with earlier this week on the history of Christianity and the differences between Catholicism and Orthodoxy, about which I admittedly don't know much but has always fascinated me. So far a very fascinating and informative read

How the hell was this 14 year old boy able to construct 3 long flawless stanzas of Latin poetry (written in ecclesiastical which makes sense but is cool). Hello?? I mean very good poetry. In Latin. At 14. Demonstrating very good control and understanding of the language. Makes me feel very subpar. But loving it, nature and Greek myth-referencing poetry is my favorite and there's been lots of that so far

...a deranged man that her only exit option was death. That needs to not be the case. I also found it fascinating how it was very subtly implied that the narrator was an atheist (especially contrasted with the wife (who btw was never named (unlike white nights))) and that perhaps his disconnect with God and religion and having a purpose could have been a major factor in why he is the way he is. anyways

...completely unbearable. My copy is full of notes yelling at his for being an asshole and maybe if he looked anywhere except the inside of his own head and left his strange self-echochamber these events wouldn't have happened. I mean he even made his wife's suicide about him. Speaking of her, this just is such a case for why women's rights are so important and valid, because she felt so stuck in her marriage with...

Fyodor Dostoevsky I could kiss you on the mouth. I was annoyed at the first half until I realized that was the point and was able to actually enjoy it. The writing was absolutely stunning, every sentence he writes has this ability to pull you in and extract an emotion you weren't even sure existed. Yet I have to say I haven't been this absolutely pissed off at a narrator maybe ever before. I mean the man was just...

...a very familiar feeling, especially right now. I also think how much Ophelia exists in the sphere of popular culture is very interesting as she wasn't as big of a character as I would have thought, but her few scenes are very impacting. She really did have no self-agency and I understand why that would destroy her. Also the scene where they are digging her grave and come across the skulls, that was an...

...characterization of Hamlet and the way you could follow him descend into madness in a way yet also be more sane than anyone around him. I kind of got this feeling from it of being the only sane person around and just absolutely losing your mind because everyone around you is just so clueless and not reacting appropriately to something that deserves a big reaction and I don't think I explained it right but it's...

I read the first like 90% in a couple days and the beginning of the month, then got very busy and just finished it 2 weeks later. I kind of expected more spooky ghost stuff haha but it was still incredibly interesting. I loved the...

I recently read If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio which made me suddenly develop a fascination with Shakespeare and I felt the need to read Hamlet immediately as I surprisingly never have. I plan to work my way through all his plays likely tragedies then comedies then histories. It was definitely encouraging to begin reading and realize that my understanding of Shakespearean english has drastically improved since...

...was unfamiliar with both this would be impossible to read. But if this takes place at the formation of the world, before the creation of man, then what are all these references to Greek heroes doing? Is it being used as a sort of outside allusion? Am I reading way too much into it? These people didn't exist yet as man didn't exist yet and also why is there so much pagan influence in a Christian text? It's all...

...general story. I think I was also surprised how much Greek mythological influence and allusions there are, and how seriously they are taken in the context of the story, It's just kind of confusing timelinewise because ok yes, this is an epic based on the Greek epic tradition so it makes sense for there to be references and I am grateful to my understanding and knowledge of Greek mythology at least because if I...

wow this is hard to read but also incredibly fascinating. I don't exactly know what I was expecting going into this but this is not it. The depth of the Christian mythology that is being portrayed and incorporated is not something I am used to or was expecting. I unfortunately am not very educated in demonology or the deep points of Christian mysticism, so a lot of it is very unfamiliar, even if I know the...

Kelsey is finished with Antigone (Theban Plays, #3)
Great play about the corruption and man and morality, human vs divine law, and divine punishment/fate. Great ending to the Oedipus plays as obviously the whole bloodline needs to be cursed for this to be a true Greek tragedy (although once again the question is whether this is a curse of human invention or of mortals being pawns to the will of the gods)

Pretty good, I really enjoyed Oedipus' monologue to Theseus about him being a bystander in his own life and how all the bad things that have happened to him were because of fate and he has no control over anything, that was very good. It felt a little bit slow and there was a lot of kind of off-screen explaining (which Sophocles tends to do) but overall a good play about the end of his life

...was a masterpiece in storytelling and a thrill to read. I loved how they spoke in Shakespeare quotes. Yes of course it was pretentious but anyone who complains about that has not been around real nerds. Because 100% for a fact would that be a thing that happens and I would if I could
Anyways ranting aside this was truly incredible and touching and heartbreaking
