“They rode on into the hot puffs of air, as if somewhere in the heart of the desert a dragon had stirred awake and was casting his breath at the travelers, waiting for them to ride into his lair before letting loose his terrible fire.”

“They rode on into the hot puffs, severe, as if somewhere in the heart of the desert, a dragon had stirred awake and was casting his breath at the travelers, waiting for them to write into his layer before letting loose his terrible fire.”

Oh how I miss the most amazingly creative similes in metaphor that can be found in old-fashioned Harlequin, and silhouette romance books! 😀

Tuchman maintains that christian theology deems a merchant cannot sell his items for profit, only to cover the cost of ingredients to make said item. Yet once again we’re in a part of history where there was a huge disparity between the halves and they have nots. Tendency of humans to want to get us much possible for as little as possible.

“History never repeats itself,” said Voltaire; “man always does.” Thucydides, of course, made that principle the justification of his work.

I only got in 4 chapters. Too rambling, characters disconnected, I am traumatized by this woman’s life and lost ability to relate to her.

Real life is hard. I don’t need to read even harder in fiction. It seemed to be without point.

What a fun description of steam coming off a cup.

“When the alternative is death to your entire species things are very easy. No moral dilemmas, no weighing what is best for whom.”

If you’ve read The Martian you should read this. The author is giving me a run for my money in my science and physics knowledge.

Raymond was waiting outside the front door of the hospital. I saw him bend down to light the cigarette of a woman in a wheelchair. She brought her drip out with her on wheels so she could destroy her health at the same time as taxpayers money was being used to try and restore it.

I didn’t burn to ashes. I emerged from the flames like a little Phoenix. I walked through the fire and I loved. There were scars on my heart just as thick and disfiguring s the ones on my face. I hope some unmanaged tissue remains. A patch through which love can come in and flow out. I hope.

No! It’s gone south. One doesn’t just fall in love like a high schooler in a setting like Auschwitz. The storyline and language has gone flat and childish. Nuance has left the building. ;( This can’t be a Harlequin romance. When one is in survival mode romance takes back seat to like.....food. This portrayal of Gita giggling like a schoolgirl with her girlfriend is offputting and completely out of place.
