okay, its actually pretty interesting, but honestly i think a lot was lost in translation - the writing honestly feels very flat in english

[Sara’s still trying to get into crime novels 🤡 season 3 episode 7] (btw this is my attempt to read contemporary authors)
This book has been rotting in my “might read someday” list for a few years now. Not obsessed but pretty good so far. I have to appreciate the author’s dedication to detail about 19th century Austrian knowledge of criminalistics. pretty cool~

this is forster’s 2nd novel, that everybody seems to be shitting on. im enjoying it so far, but in complete honesty, it is weaker than his other novels i’ve read. although i enjoy the dynamic between rickie and ansell, both of them are kinda pretentious imo, and the philosophy they discuss is weak. on the other hand i love rickie’s obsession with aesthetics and his over-emotional thinking.

welll i gotta say, i have no idea where this is going. idk how i feel about sebastian becoming a monk. but the pattern i’m getting is that the family cannot escape the curse of catholicism. it had taken over everybody’s life whether they acknowledge it or not. all of them are rotten from the core. they feel shame all the time, yet they keep believing in the church, and hating it at the same time …

Having a friend with depression, suffering from addiction, family trying everything to make him sober except ask how he feels. “We must keep him happy and healthy here for a bit.” This bitch is so delusional, even if Marchmain is a terrible man, I understand why he left this insane family. How I hope Sebastian has a good ending :((
TLDR Im very much enjoying the story!

well, i am halfway through. this has been interesting in many aspects. catholicism in england has not been investigated much i think, and the frustration it ignites in me is becoming weary. sebastian’s family is driving me insane. charles is still pretty mysterious to me ngl. and his father - as insane as he is, is still probably the most sensible person in this book, and i honestly get him

Gejza, ty si moja spriaznená duša. S žiadnym autorom, ani človekom som sa nikdy v mojom živote takto nestotožnila. Som rada, že si existoval a prinášaš mi veľkú útechu tvojím písaním.

I’ve managed to buy “The great moravian elites from Mikulčice” by Lumír Poláček. Fenomenal publication! I’ve read quite a few chapters for my exams but then also continued for personal enjoyment.
Absolute gem, this work. 100% recommend

Got some nice ancient texts for christmas - Suetonius, Arrianos, and Illiad XII-XXIV. Suuuper excited to get back to reading stuff I WANT. Anyway, after the exams I’ll probably read Twilight cuz I bought the trilogy for like 7€ 😭😭. Bye now

Welp, I’m treating this app as my diary now:
I completed (!!!) my summer reading challenge back in september hahaha. I’m pretty proud of myself. I did read 10 books! Special thanks goes to my injured leg, which made me unable to work 😭, therefore allowing me to spend that time reading.
Rn I’m at uni so I spend most of my time reading HEFTY books for school.

I’m not good at reading poetry but I always enjoy it and that’s what matters.
I picked this up today at the bookstore because I recognised the name - I instantly remembered that this was the author Bram Stoker fancied.
Let me tell you- I did not expect such beauty and leisure I found in the first few pages. Poetry dedicated to loving life - did not expect such a thing to be written in 1855

honestly, there isn’t one character i hate in this book. every character is themselves, has their own traits, a different way of speaking and yet each one is so kind and sweet. mina and jonathan are so cute. dr. seward is my crush honestly… and quincy haha.

these three last pages of van helsing just trying to obscurely explain to john that what they are dealing with is far more sinister than he thinks is AMAZING. i love this scene so much.
“it is the fault of science taht it wants to explain all, and if it explain not, then it says there is nothing to explain.”
