I'm enjoying this but it is not my usual fare so I am reading it a bit at a time between other books

A series of essays - one makes me laugh out loud, some remind me of times past and some are best passed by quickly.

This is a book of essays on the theme of eating alone. Who has home alone recipes? Who likes simple. does not lower their standards, can comfortably eat alone in a restaurant? I very much enjoyed the introduction and the first essay. The second essay I didn't enjoy quite so much. I will read essays singly between other books and discover how much the appeal of the food itself imfluences my opinion of the essays.

Quote: 'There's something about a room for thoughts and words.' It was a statement, simple and direct, but it rang for Ani with the shapes of revealed truth. 'I've always wondered if Paradise might not be a little like a library,' the man said then.

Hilarious treatment of phenomenology but unrelenting reverse snobbery is hard

Mary is finished with To the Lighthouse
I might finish this one day but I find it difficult to read when the author doesn't like or appearto respect her characters

Mary is reading The End of Men: And the Rise of Women
This is a really important book. Hannah Rosin is a journalist so it is very readable. I spend all my time thinking about who I want to share it with (1st anyone with kids 2nd everyone else. I'm so fascinated I can't put it down.

I've never read an autobiography written in the third person before. I wonder if Mr Rushdie has difficulty owning all the experiences. Still, it's a fascinating read, in parts.
