The miscommunication and coldness of characters make me think Sally Rooney fans could enjoy this

So far, I'm liking it. the detached tone suits the story and makes the apathy of the narrator rather intriguing. I'll probably need more to truly engage in the future, but for now it's working for me

JW4 - good way to end the collection, although I'm still not convinced by the digital hauntings

Thin Air - 3,75-, classic but well executed! Love me a winter ghost

Fun! Would make a good cheesy movie!

JW3 - repetitive if you've read other books by her

JW2 - even better than the first one, shorter and straight to the point, wholesome ghosts again

Aching, so easy to relate to

The Spare Room - 3,5-
We're getting there! Although it felt like a repetition from JW1. Last pages and pace shift were actually gripping though
The Fur Coat - 3,5
Nice setting, chilly at times, the bite thing was a very fresh idea. The ending made me question to what extent it was a Shining tribute
The Boots - 3,5+
!!! That was a fun surprise for sure, twisted and seedy in the worst ways, but narratively it was great

Ghost in the Machine - 3
Like the previous ones, fun premise but Metaverse ghosts are not for meeee

JW1 - Strange Meetings - liked the interlude! More the vibe I was looking for!

The old house at home - 3,5
Cool atmosphere, but the modern technology thing is not doing for me. I did get a little spooked, but the whole VR thing took me out of the story

App-arition - 3,5
Not the biggest fan of digital hauntings, but this was a good take on it! Although the scariest part clearly wasn't the ghost itself, and got a bit too real!

Gros GROS banger so far, j'ai failli pleurer deux fois, l'histoire est hyper prenante et crédible. L'écriture est fluide, épouse les émotions mais pas de manière mièvre, on ne s'embarasse pas de pathos surfait, les scènes se suffisent à elles-mêmes pour émouvoir.

Première partie super parlante, avec une bibliographie alléchante et diversifiée. C'est agréablement (et surprenament) lisiblement écrit pour un essai francophone. Ce premier chapitre pose très bien le contexte avec de très nombreux exemples, c'étaient édifiant de découvrir l'histoire de la question de la restitution, en particulier l'essor dans les 70/80s
