Le premier chapitre transmet l'image d'une Ferdaous mythique, quasi surhumaine, défié par l'admiration des autres femmes et leur façon de croire en elle sans condition aucune ; affirmé par la scène finale où sa voix semble venir d'un autre monde à l'image d'une déesse ou d'un esprit vengeur

Julia Armfield just writes my favourite kind of atmospheres!
I'm not super invested in the characters yet, but it makes sense as they're all keeping their guard up.
I love the world she created as well and I really appreciate we're given details on the evolution of it!

Yep, the french formatting WAS the issue.
I also find the original rhyming much more interesting, although I understand the translator's choice

La traduction a l'air pas mal, mais le formatage est cauchemardesque.
Je vais lire la vo en parallèle pour comparer parce que j'ai peur de détester ce livre que je pensais adorer.
J'adore ce jeu avec la forme du texte, j'aime quand la littérature ose, mais la protagoniste est un peu une conne, je vais m'accrocher et on verra.

How the aching of missing her siblings, probably never seeing them again, and the beauty/empathy/strength of these two women anchoring her, and being silently there for her is just so quietly powerful

It's growing on me, Priscilla & Diamond are characters I really enjoy following. I appreciate what the book is saying & portraying through them and through the short in-between paragraphs. Overall, I find the construction of the novel very interesting (i.e.Sabre's sermons)
