I might be spoiling the main series by reading this, but it sounded interesting (which it is) so I decided to read it.

Just as good as I remember it. I’ve been on a ‘start a new book ‘cause it sounds good, don’t finish it’ kick and I’m unsure why. But I need a book for December, so this is going to be it, and I might need to draw this out for longer. Retellings of fairy tails always makes me want to read the original, in the case the Grimm Brothers original stories.

So far so good, I’m intrigued as to what’s going to happen next and cannot connect to any of these characters. I don’t get why the do the things they do, maybe it’s a rich person thing, maybe it’s a popular person thing, but it is certainly interesting to see a different perspective like that. It’s too bad I don’t have any free time to read it.

REREAD: I decided to reread this book because I thought about it and figured why not. The nicknames are a bit weird, I must say, but I had to pause my reading on the account of one thing: this 8th grade girl was dating a junior in high school. WHAT? I’M SORRY? I’m absolutely flabbergasted. Somebody please do a background check or something on this man.

This book was amazing. The plot was fascinating and I couldn’t stop reading it. The plot twist at the end was something I would have never expected — but definitely helps set-up a third book. Overall, five stars, wonderful autumnal read, and just as good as the original. Can’t wait for what comes of the potential this series has!

Starting the perfect book for the upcoming spooky season; it also happens to be the sequel to the book I read last year for the spooky season. It already has me intrigued, I can’t wait to see what happens in all 384 pages of this Halloween themed story (my goodness that seems long, but maybe that is because I struggled to get through the 200-something book I just read). Anywho, happy Halloween!

It’s not quite like Vanishing Treasures but it is still interesting to read and see the author’s connections to the plants and/or animals listed.

The cover is really pretty, and it’s about animals (hopefully it’s like Vanishing Treasures) so I’m excited to read it.

My first read of September, hopefully we get another but school may be hectic so who knows.

I was wrong about how this book ended — the Grandest Game ends but the mysteries do not.

Who is the lady in white? What does she want with Avery — or Brady? What’s wrong with The Lilly, what happened to her?

Once again there are too many questions as apposed to answers given for my brain to not spiral down a rabbit hole.

Alice’s rabbit hole.

We learned who kidnapped Gigi, and I don’t know why when I read about Gigi be trapped in a lighthouse I didn’t automatically think of Jackson. But I did realize after I put the book down and started reading again. Who has a lighthouse not far from Hawthorne Island where someone could be stored?

I don’t really get why they had to go to the cruise ship, because it seems out of the blue, must be for the plot.

Y’know, the way I remembered the Grandest Game ending was not how it actually ended. I must have imagined it. I could’ve sworn.

Who is the threat? What is Gigi being protected from? Riddles upon riddles and traps upon traps, too many questions not enough answers.

I don’t think this game is going to end it these pages. Perhaps in the Gilded Blade. Calla lilies and the number three. What does Odette know?

RE-READ: so I can understand what’s happening in Glorious Rivals

Perhaps there won’t be a spade, because in this game there is only the club, heart, and diamond teams.

I would be horrible at this game, I suck at riddles and am just as bad — if not worse — at word tricks and games. But it wasn’t built for people like me, and is spectacularly fun to read.

What begins a bet? Not that.

Also, I kind of noticed something with the covers I didn’t know if anyone else did. The Grandest Game has a club on it (in the context of cards), and Glorious Rivals had a diamond on it. I suppose we are getting one with a heart and spade on it next. Cool details to put on a cover, they are both beautiful, by the way.

I’m a bit confused as of now, because a few things haven’t really been explained yet, but I’m sure it will clear up. I’m assuming a ‘ward’ is the type of magic in this world. We’re still in the introduction part of the book, so the main conflict hasn’t hit yet. We do switch between 4 POVs, Vicky, Algernodon (?), Milan, and Rupert, which is so many that you don’t see it often.

Done and finished. What a book that was, so many ups and downs and the twists at the end, it was a blast to read through. Now all I need to do is read the third book, to figure out how this all ends and how Seven thinks her decision will help the future.

These books are full of magical creatures — and out of all of them I’ve read about so far, none I find more scary than the Wheever. Just imagining if this was a real creature gives me goosebumps. It looks like a large beaver in ‘herbivore’ form, but when in ‘carnivore’ form it transforms. It shifts its entire body around, morphing into a ten-foot tall monster that has projectile quills. Scary, no?

It’s very interesting so far. In this book we get two POVs instead of the one from the previous book (Phoenix/Twelve and Dog), the visions that Dog is getting from the Clasp River and the Shadowseam are making me equally curious to what will happen next. Im not getting good vibes from Zenith, she seems almost too caught up in the witches’ past for her own good. And she attacked Five (he did deserve it, but . .).

My favorite animals covered so far are the Greenland Shark, the Swift, and the Bat (of course). It’s a good book and very interesting to get all this background on these animals over history. Poachers are awful people.

I still really like the Greenland Shark entry because I think it’s really interesting. The Swift section is also interesting; I never knew that they were that fantastic of animals. “A swift flies about 124,000 miles a year, the Earth has a circumference at the equator of 24,901 miles,” the author writes.

Here’s to animal conservation and preserving our planet!
