This... is a really bad book. Things just happen because "plot". There's always some sort of life-threatening crisis. Characters make the dumbest decisions possible. Military Decorum is nonexistent. I'm all for following along a character who is not ready to step into the captain’s chair and watching them grow. But this guy makes genuinely brain-dead decisions. Like, does the military not teach tactics or leadership?

This series has yet to dive into detail on a single topic, and the author thought it was a good idea to throw us into the middle of political unrest, a coup, a new culture and civilization without any sort of build up or actual story telling. I never trust the ratings for books on this app. But a 4.4 star rating is beyond the pale. I feel like I'm reading events that should be the climax of the book!

This series is starting to drag on. As the next book isn't published yet, I doubt I'll continue this series. That's if I even manage to finish this book

I really wish the primary enemy wasn't so categorically evil. Would have made Arthur's moral stuggle actually mean something.

I was reading this, and I got the same feeling when reading the first one, that this had to be a recent publication. There were just too many parallels with our current society/politics. And to little surprise, it was published this year. One piece of advice... no matter what side of the aisle, it makes a better story if you're more... subtle, with your messaging. It's quite...in your face. To put it simply, lol

Why is this so good??? I happened across this while scrolling on the Kindle store and thought the cover and title were cool, so I downloaded it and damn. I'm impressed so far.

Why are the main characters in these sorts of books so emotionally immature? God, half the issues could be solved within 2 minutes if people just sat down and talked about their feelings. Nothing but manufactured stress/tension

This is probably the fastest I've ever picked up and then put a book right back down. The writing is super basic. "he did this, he did that, he paused, he hesitated." all very repetitive."the night was cold", "the aircraft was obviously damaged—badly—and it also had obviously landed, not crashed". Telling us what is happening and failing to show it.

Maybe I'm being too harsh, but this failed to capture my interest

This is nothing but bad sex jokes, innuendos, cringy dialogue, a bad main character, and a mediocre story. I refuse to believe this is the same author that gave us the Siobhan Dunmoore series.

Wow...and with one sentence, you've made me hate your character and hate your book. Good job, Eric, that's a first for me.

Very good book so far, but about halfway through it, Eric just forgets people's gender? Her is used instead of him, and mister is used for women and a few other different combinations. I can't really wrap my head around why or how this is happening. It's quite jarring honestly and almost takes you out of the story, and you're just like "wait what? Who's being talked about?"

This might actually be the worst book in the series. The number of grammatical mistakes is more than the last 3 books combined! Add to the fact that the author appears to not be able to keep the names of the characters straight. This might end up being a one-star.

Not to mention, Carter is actually infuriating, telling people to "watch their language" every 5 seconds. Ogden may as well have left vulgarity out of it.

I only have one question: How does one "shrug with their eyes"?

This is a very interesting book so far, I've never read anything by this author before. I've seen that this is the first book he wrote. If the book keeps going the way this is, then I will be really excited to move on to the next one!

As normal, I'm enjoying the story, and as has become the norm with this series, there are a handful of grammatical errors. But something I've noticed is there are a number of very...weak sentences.

For example:

"X Smiled a knowing smile"

"Those who do follow in the footsteps of the founders of the legacy that rules over our rulers."

I just feel there are much better ways to write sentences like these

I don't know if I can finish this. The writing style, which first was weirdly quirky (in a good way), has lost most of its charm on me. Many things feel rushed over (not in terms of quality but time spent on them) and just as I started to get back into it, chapter 58 made me roll my eyes and put it right back down

How is this even better than the last one!?!?

This writing style is so different from what I'm used to. This exposition heavy, telling us not showing us way of writing is something that I should dislike. But the story is weirdly helped by this strange writing style. And the premise is absolutely insane and extremely unique

The series feels a bit stale at this point. This is the second book in a row where the premise of the story is... "eh" with minor grammatical errors. Throw in the fact that Glynn mixed up characters at least once, and you're left with a slightly below average run of the mill sci fi novel. Currently sitting at a 2.5/5

I'm very tired of the "captain angers a politician, politician stomps on the captains career for the entire series" trope. Especially in this case, where it's been multiple times, over multiple books. It serves no purpose other than to keep them in the captains chair. Find a more interesting and unique reason to do that.

There are a number of inconsistencies in this particular book, nothing major, but Glynn should really remember the number of freighters in a fleet. First, it was a number, then it was 7, and then when listing out specific ships, it was 5. The grammar has also had a number of errors, some more of an issue than others.

There are a number of different continuity errors in this book. Wrong system names when talking about past events, it being explained that peep missle pods hold 12 missiles, when it's already known that they hold 16.

And while not technically an error, saying the allied barrage held over 3000 missiles with almost 70 of the wall + pods, is a gross miscalculation. A smaller fleet in the past put out 13k with pods

I really am struggling to finish this... what happened to all the character interaction? I'm talking multiple pages worth of exposition between 2 characters' sentences

Granted, its been a problem for the entire series, but the closer we get to the end, the more exposition we get dumped on us. I'm sorry, as cool as it is the story doesn't need 4 pages detailing the small differences between LACs, thats just 1 example

The first ~140 pages were great, honestly, probably the best I've seen from this series since the first 4 books. But God, I HATE when it switches to the "Peep" governments perspective. When it does its just exposition upon exposition upon exposition. It's exhausting and very boring to read. It's been an issue the whole series, but it just keeps getting worse.

This is so dumb, because the CO of "hell" didn't reply to a chess move his buddy thinks the prisoners revolted and took over the base and organizes a fleet to go and take it back. That is the absolute dumbest most unrealistic justification for extra content in a book that is already unnecessarily long. What happened between book 4 and now Weber? This series took a nosedive and still hasn't pulled up.

Holy hell, Weber is just trying to do too much, we're switching perspectives what feels like 20 times a chapter during the battle scenes, and with the non-existence of any section breaks its impossible to keep which perspective we're currently in straight. This didn't need to be 700+ pages, you could cut 100+ pages and have a better book than what this is. USE SECTION BREAKS! IDC IF THERES 6 ON A PAGE. USE THEM.

I really dislike this book. The entire plot line is boring, and it really just gives me the "ick" again it just feels like filler crap. Why waste a book on this when you literally skipped over the battle for Trevor's star???
