Bro this has some insane twists

Sometimes there’s an adjective repeated multiple times in a sentence or paragraph referring to various things, and some scenes and dialogues are hard to follow, but it’s interesting to see the development Holly Black’s writing went though, considering this was one of her earlier books in this universe, and the atmosphere and plot are just as whimsical as The Cruel Prince.

I can’t figure out whether it’s the typical reckless YA protagonist thing, or if it’s the authors way of showing her pixie nature, because after all she doesn’t feel compassion for others the way humans do. I choose to believe the second because it’s more fun that way lol.

I like Kaye but I dislike that she constantly does stupid things when explicitly told not to and WHY not to do them. Her friends tell her not to take the glamour off because they need her help getting free, and she goes takes her glamour off without knowing if anyone can put it back on. She’s told the Unseelie Court is dangerous, Nd she goes there without knowing the dynamics, or which group she belongs to.

Damn people DIE in this one.

Love the narrative voice

Damn it, the writing was so beautiful. The rules of social interactions are so accurate for the 1900s, I think a lot of people forget how formal everything was even 80 years ago. The fact that they casually wake up to meet at 8am and people “sleep in on Saturdays” is something I envy lol. And the fact that 18 year olds are being chaperoned by their parents damn…
