Stephen King can be so funny sometimes when he’s just narrating the story but he sucks at writing intentionally funny characters/moments. Richie is funny in the movies, but his character feels underdeveloped on paper, and the other characters laugh at the most random, dry stuff. I feel like a party pooper but bro, the jokes are dry. Also, Stan feels like a side character, which is deeply upsetting💔

Omfg Stephen King needs to stop even MENTIONING women in his books. The descriptions are unnecessary and disgusting.

Stephen King is brilliant with his character introductions. I didn’t expect to enjoy his writing style or narration this much

I know it’s a horror book but it’s got such a cozy vibe to it and I’m SO excited for the rest. My edition is nearly 1400 pages though and feels like a brick🫩

Unrealistic af. The protagonist becomes a sex worker, yet the men are never forceful or creepy. She dresses as a man but nobody suspects her of being a woman, and almost every female character is a horny lesbian. Is the author really this naive or does she take the reader for a fool? Are we forgetting that it’s the 1800s? Whats the purpose of writing abt the past if the portrayal of it is unrealistic anyway?

This book is BIZZARE but also predictable, idk what to make of it😭

The original is 10 times better than the translated version I read almost four years ago. The scenes feel grander, and the writing is truly mesmerizing. I’m only now realizing what a great writer Donna Tartt actually is. Wow!
