The original is 10 times better than the translated version I read almost four years ago. The scenes feel grander, and the writing is truly mesmerizing. I’m only now realizing what a great writer Donna Tartt actually is. Wow!

Man labai patinka, kai rašytojai užsimena apie mėlyną spalvą savo kūryboje. Maža detalė, bet visada ją vertinu.

“Žiūrėt į mėlynus paveikslus yra tas pats kaip žiūrėti į didelį mėlynai, neapsakomai mėlynai žydintį linų lauką. Toks jau mėlynumas, taip gera gera akims! Mėlynumas, kuris tave atgaivina, pripildo. Nenuostabu, kad senovės daktarai spalvom gydė ligas.”

This is SO much better than The Poppy War series. The Poppy War was great but it didn’t affect me. I’ve already forgotten most of its plot tbh. This book, however, validated me in my own experience and insights, made me look at people differently, showed me how racism is still overlooked in todays society, and so much more. I love this book so much and I’m not even finished reading it!!

Omg LOVING it so far. I love reading about alienation, the depth of language, and the inauthenticity of translations. The discussions between the characters abt these topics just reflect things I’ve extensively thought about myself, and i feel wholly understood😭❤️

Just spent two hours talking about this book to my sister and kept talking long after she fell asleep. Literally talked to a wall. That’s how you know the book is amazing

There’s a lot of people interviewed, a lot of stories written down. Some survivors are dense and dumb, others are interesting and good storytellers. No matter their differences I can’t help but feel for them all. The unity of people during that time is apparent in the text and I can’t imagine the loneliness that overcame them after surviving and losing nearly everything. Great book

I feel physically sick but in a good way. Like I’m intoxicated or overwhelmed by everything happening simultaneously. I’m drunk on words. It’s so hard to explain but i love it so much
