Was having trouble getting into the book. I decided to read all the Kōrero chapters first, then the chapters on Tonga. This is working much better - I really liked the Kōrero story and now the story on Tonga is making much more sense.

Wow. We really screwed up things in the North. I'm pretty sure more terrible things happen, so need to read this with breaks.

I'm not sure I can finish this book. I know I don't want to. I'm going to switch to ebook version. I don't like this narrator at all. With so many different characters and viewpoints, it's really hard to tell who is who when there is no difference in the narration.

Both of the other books I'm reading now have terrible difficult subjects and I need something light to clear my brain.

I'm going to have to read this again taking notes before bookclub.
Regarding sports team names and mascots, I was reminded of the Florida State Seminoles.

Apparently being raised in a strong faith community (you can't always explain why something is true), having taken several logic and statistics courses (humans are terrible at statistics), then spending several years in tech support (people are wrong all the time, especially those who think they are right), and reading a lot about how brains work (memories can be totally unreliable) means I AM so smart.

It's refreshing to read of "white" men that respect the Inuit and other first nations and make the time to learn the languages and listen to the ancient wisdom for ways to stay alive.

Thus is listening to a cover of a song you know by heart done in a completely different genre. The song is good, but it's also really really weird and your brain keeps trying to play the original.

This is a very tough book for me to read. There's a lot of family history it is dragging into the light. I can only handle so much before the terribleness of people gets to me. Reading this a bit every day because it is history that deserves to be told and heard.

I wish I had started the book without knowing anything. Since I already knew Nikki ended up in Africa without Eric, it was painfully obvious what would happen.
I would not be reading this if it wasn't for a book club. It's so far predictable and full of stereotypes.

I can't deal with this book right now. Author is pissing me off too much.
I started it because I thought it would help me with my feelings of laziness. Instead it made me feel way worse. Also, resting != laziness. I cannot take the negative connotation out of the word laziness, so using interchangeably with rest or relaxation is really problematic.
