I don’t love this mixed media format, it reminds me a lot so far of Sylvain Neuvel’s ‘Themis Files’ series which I did not like. The characters are very hammy and it does this thing that’s a real pet peeve of mine where it tells us that a piece of in-universe art is award winning or mindblowing but it’s not clear why. Night Film did the same thing and I hated that too

Nora coming onto Scott??? What the fuck was that. If this wasn’t written by a man I would consider it fully in the “men writing women” cringe category.

Wow that last chapter was so intense!!! I’m glad I stayed so far, although nothing excuses the rest of my complaints.

This book not having a full synopsis on Wikipedia and people saying it has a mind blowing ending are the only things keeping me going at this point. I really enjoyed the writing at first but it’s getting real long in the tooth (and racist, fatphobic, misogynist…Scott really is a piece of shit)

The constant mentions of women’s weight and old timey racism is getting very old. You’re calling an elderly Chinese lady “Chairman Mao” for a whole chapter and never even telling the audience her real name? Seriously fuck off.

I know I’m going through this very short book quite slowly but I do really like it.
