Hot romance girl summer is over so I'm slowly changing my TBR vibes into fantasy. Tbh I'm more interested in book 2 of this series but people recommend reading this series from the start for context so *sigh* here I go

Friends to lovers trope, my beloved, may authors never stop using you for narratives, amen

When a character makes a decision thinking it's for the greater good and then the results of said decision come back to bite the character's ass, destroying everything oooooo Wen Zhao, I love your writing *cries in the corner*

The setting and "magic" system are incredibly interesting (and creative!) but I just can't with random info dumping on world-building. To have one little detail from a scene explained we need to read paragraphs of summarised world history of the kingdom and it's not even a smooth transition. PLS BE BETTER.

It's cute and painful at the same time when small details about her surroundings remind her of him ;u; Netflix show did great conveying that and even went beyond! Man, I really wish this book had more POVs... BUT I JUST NOTICED there's THE LETTER at the end of the book (additional "chapter" of sort)! You'll see me bawling my eyes out once I reach that part!!!

This one reads like a silly rom-com movie but the characters know how silly it is and sometimes make fun of it. Making me giggle so far, as it should! And man, that one scene with Andrew TvT Good to see him back! Fitzpatrick brothers are hilarious (one channels golden retriever energy and the other is like an elegant grumpy black cat).

I'm giving it one more chance. Please pray for me.

Around 100 pages left. Hopefully I'll finish reading this weekend TvT

Considering how the main romantic subplot started sometimes it's hard for me to believe that those two share such a strong bond. Tbh I'm more interested in the side ship's romance happening "off screen". But the mystery is mystering and I'm looking forward to more reveals!

Mixed feelings for now. Pacing is quite slow and the romantic subplot isn't my cup of tea (not a fan of the way it's being presented as). Noting this down mostly to come back here after another 25% and see if my opinion has changed.

A story where lore is actually explained WHAT A FEAST! I wonder how it ties in with other discoveries. And I almost got a heart attack when a character's name disappeared from POVs. Dear author, I beg you, don't kill that character. Oh, we also got a hint of another romantic subplot! I wonder if that's the surprising one readers spoke of in their reviews. But then again, both options are quite obvious.

Aleks is irritating with their constant dismissive attitude and I believe I already know what's behind the great mystery (I haven't read the original story of Ushers) but I still like this story. And I want to check how wrong I am in my suspicions/assumptions.

Ok, Finch's money seem like a picklock the author uses to bypass some of the obstacles. Not that it's a deal-breaker for me. More like: "wow if they were both poor, they'd be screwed". But I love how engaging the plot is and how much I want to know what's going to happen next (even though I read it before lol). One of the "can't put it down" books (so far).

I want to read "The Night Country" but I realized that I don't remember what happened in book 1 so... REREAD TIME!

The pace is really slow, but chapters are so short that it doesn't seem like a bigger issue. I must admit I like this slow introduction into characters' lives but I hope it won't be prolonged. Agni's POV chapters are not my fave so far but there's hope on the horizon! And mysteries keep me hooked.

That one scene happened too fast imo. Should have had more build-up so that I could feel devastated by the prospect of **** but the whole part fell flat a little and I didn't feel what I should have been feeling. But I still don't know what lays ahead of me so maybe I should be careful what I wish for. Anyway, a small nitpick from my side. Other than that - I'M LOVIN' IT. And Stauros??? I DID NOT SEE THAT COMING.

So far my only complaint is the lack of a map. I'd give my firstborn away for a map of this world. It's easy to get lost in all those lands and regions the characters traverse. And I feel like one of those characters has a huge death flag above their head so that might become my other complaint once it comes true (please, don't).

This one has an interesting premise and plot but most of the time I feel bad for the male lead. Please, don't let me down, O'Leary.

One chapter left... The only interesting parts are the ones where main characters don't appear lmao

Thinking about DNFing this one. Why is it so hard to find a well-written friends-to-lovers story? Why authors can't suddenly write when it comes to couples who actually LIKE each other???? FRIENDS TO LOVERS TROPE BASICALLY WRITES ITSELF GODDAMMIT.
