A PAGE LATER the character that we’ve not really met???? Just to feed the MC’s plot and give her reason to move forward? Lots of telling without showing there, hoping once the author gets her stride there will be less jarring moments like that, what a decision! 😭

I’m getting Sarah J. Maas flashbacks (this is not a positive connotation), however, *this assassin* isn’t a blatant pick-me, so I can deal. Some passages feel like they were written with a thesaurus open next to the author, which is…frustrating. I’m a girlie that enjoys prose a shade darker than lavender, but even I am needing less flourish, more actual explanation of a scene. Less can be more and be good!

Think I’ve pushed past the “everything horrible happened but it wasn’t ANYTHING to do with me” parts of the book and can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps she truly had nothing to do with it all, but her insistence on it rang very false. Excellent book otherwise, I just have an issue with disingenuous statements.

Weird to have an anti-weed rant in a book that’s basically one big X trip.

Dragging a bit, but that’s possibly just me being more invested in the mystery (and the dragons, lol) than the MC’s obvi magic background and the love triangle. 😳 It’s not *bad* or anything, I just clearly need to read a bunch of mysteries to get the desire to *figure it out* out my system.

Forgot this was a romance novel with all the dragons and murder mystery happening (I like solving a mystery along with the protag, this one’s kinda giving me nothing to suss out at the moment, which is a shame, but whatevs) until the MC hopelessly fell back into bed with her..?.?.?????? pseudo ex but not really??? Praying for straight women.
